Hello all,
My suspension is knackered and I need to replace them with something a little bit more comfortable (old age I guess) I currently have 17" alloys and was told that if I bought a suspension lowering kit it will make the ride just as bad.
I dont want to feel every single bump on the road so can you very nice people suggest something?
Also, what the difference between uprated suspension and normal one's
and
gas suspension and whatever their equivelent might be
Thanks all

personally id go for coilvers, dont lower the car too much and it will be a nice ride with improved handling. found out the hard way with my old nova 16v that lowering it too far on coilies knackers yer back :)

yeah i agree i had mine lowered on just springs by 40mm to start with, then i put coilovers on and dropped it about 100mm and even though its alot lower it still feels like a nicer ride than with just the springs

What car is it?
Eibach Springs and Boge Gas Shocks. If it's a Mk2 ditch the 17" and get some 15" the car will handle much better, and accelerate a little better.

i heard bilstein kits are good good handling with a resonable ride

It's a 1993 1.8 mk3 golf, (cant believe it's already 14 years old!)
I bought this about a year and a half ago for little money knowing the suspension would need looking at, so I dont really want to spend £600 on suspension!
When I go over any size bumps the car makes such a loud sound it's as if there is no suspension!
I dont mind selling the alloys as it's either refurbing them (serious curb damage) or buying new ones, trouble is, how hard will it be to sell mine?!

Don't agree that coilover's are allways best unless you spend serious money...go for boge/sachs shockers with quality spring's (eibach are best but not cheap) should cost £250 max with eibach/boge combo... and with the noise it would be worth checking that the wheels arn't catching and that all the bushes are ok (rear axle bushes can make a thud and they are a common problem)
regarding the ride with 17" and lowering, I have being driving a vento on 17" that's lowered 40mm and it does ride harder than standard but then again my gti does on -40mm set up
