Would I be able to use a 1.8 gti cyliner head (8v) on my 1.6 driver engine atall?the carb from my engine will be kept as its a tuned webber (from a 1.8 im told) is it a case of like for like or do i need to use different inlet manifolds etc? im only doin this because a tappet is dyeing on my engine and i have a 1.8 head (fully built up) lying around and i would quite like to make it a but faster at the same time as fix it?

I'm pretty sure it will with some simple drilling and blocking the fuel injectors. Have a search in this forum, i'm sure Haribo did it to his 1.6.

sorry i didnt make that very clear did i.im intending to use my inlet manifold which has the carb on already on a 1.8 gti head on a 1.6driver block.how long to do roughly or would it be easier to put the 1.8gti cam in my 1.6 engine and do the tappets at same time?

Fits straight on, just block up the injector holes (or simply leave the injectors in if your not fussy about looks.
Use the gti cam as its a more agressive profile and should free up some horses from your engine. i have heard that to get the most out of the gti head and cam on a 1.6 driver you can use a kjet gti distributor. You manifolds will all bolt straight on.

Like takethefifth said, you'll also need to drill a coolant channel into the head.

kool thanks for that, its a lot of help/just one more thing though, with this do i use the 1.6 head gasket or the gti one?

I think they're exactly the same mate.
