i managed to get £1900 for my bmw 1990 cabriolet h reg, pre facelift met blue good hood difff and control worked fine it was and it was only a 320i manual roof 92k was nice car but neeeded new clutch as was low down travel and needed a new steering rack was worn, older car do fetch more in good nick as body was great on mine few scratches but no rust,
I didnt think it was worth it really but everyones perception on price varies, it wasnt even a 325

also about the golf,i think they got a good deal on it for that price £700

it like the golf i just bought i reakon i could sell it on for a lot more, people seam to be wary of ebay sometimes and dont bid a lot, I have to much time on my hands when i look for a motor as cant work at moment and research a lot seams to make a big differnce on what i can get for my money and whats a good deal

you should leave him his positive feedback then everyone will see what he paid for it, he will proberly be pissed off, but what can he do if you leave positive unless hes a mallioucious type he cant really leave negative if you described it spot on, he wont know you know for sure that he has readvertised it, id risk it and leave him his feedback then people can decide for themselves if they want to pay that much , bet knowne would pay anywhere near that without lots of receipts history and low milage anyway

Do you wish you had tidied it up put some bbs wheels on - Then asked more?  :undecided:

kuk sool, don't despare. The original add shows there are still reasonably priced GTI's out there! just look hard and be prepared to act quickly.  Then budget a few 100 pounds to sort it out and bingo

Bodywork isnt the best but it will do. Look hard and you will find - let people know your into VWs - i have loads of calls regarding golfs as smotimes they come up trums like the one above.

re tidy it up add BBS, personally with out the history to back up the mileage and didnt have a wing bonnet and door as they were all dented or rusty as described in the correct colour. I thought it was worth about a grand.

just think the re ad is mispeading as makes out its original when its not as it will have had panels or the least paint so becomes a restored car all be it a nice looking one.
Title: Re: due some people over value the MK2 Gti
Post by: Mew on 09 July 2007, 18:14
I wouldn't say he's being misleading as no-where does he make out that it's original car at all!? He even says that it has a reconditioned engine, i know your talking about panels but i wouldn't say it's mis-leading, unlike some ads that i've seen!

Youve def gotta be carefull buying missdescribed cars these days..I bought 2 off ebay that didnt even get me home let alone be reliable. Ebays a funny old game for cars and I dont think mere mortals should be allowed to  buy/sell without expert advice and this add shows..700 quid one minute, over 2 grand a month later...will he get it?? I doubt it but its up to the buyer to me meticulous and make sure he gets what hes paying for

Errrr because it has been totally restored bodywise and totally resprayed to a very high standard and has decent alloy wheels on which all in all cost a lot of money. It was a complete sh!tter, it is now a stunning car.

thats what the guy said, i asked i thouht i saw it on ebay a while ago for £700 as its same reg etc and asked why it was so expensive or something like that

To be fair, it looks worthier of the higher price than before  If someone likes it enough, then they'll pay what they see fit

it's what ebay's all about enit, bargain hunt! lol..

I found a mint A reg mk2 8v gti, 2 door in black, absolutely minter, no rust/dents/scratches anywhere and only mod was an exhaust back box and big-bumpers, only done 92k too but they'd advertised it in the car parts section and not cars, I spotted it with 2 hours to go in the auction with no bids, so i put in 300 and won it. Got her home and found stack of receipts and full service history stamped in the book upto 90k! Buzzin.. Wonder how much she's worth?

Title: Re: due some people over value the MK2 Gti

Have to agree re bargins, in the past bought a 8v gti jetta on a G plate for £16 none runner but at the time was great for parts. paid £52 for a MK1 Golf GX silver 5dr no mot and been standing but 2 owners last for 22yrs and full history for its 52 thousand miles sold it to a mate and he is still driving it and the car is faultess . bargins are there to be had number of VW Golgs listed is quite high lol
bought loads cheap on buy it now too £100 for a monza blue 16v on an f 2 owners history but god was it rotten so only good for parts. £500 for a p plate highline with a naff gearbox, so many mk3 gti with a blown gearbox. most recent was a M plate taxed tested sold as a non runner for £200 charged the battery and was spot on.

Ive have my share of bargains but fraiser on here really kills it.

Its all down to the croud your selling to and how you sell it to them imo.

I agree the ebay one is cheeky.

EDIT:

Maybe the guy/girl sold it to someone else and its now on ebay?

i picked up my 8v on ebay for £160 expecting it to be a right dog. it got me home 200 miles and has been a reliable daily since. it even survived its first track day. my mates were going nuts when i started ripping everything out of it, offering me 5 and 600 quid for it. its probably worth that but then i'd still have to find another!  theres still plenty of cheap cars out there at the minute. i think its due to there still being plenty of very good ones - it keeps the ok ones at ok money.  it will chage in the next few years though. i know its a different game but 10 years ago £1000 would have got you a very tidy split screen camper. there are way more in the country now and they are selling for up to 30k! rough ones are 5! scary.

I know its not vag, but when i sold my bmw cab, he gave me  afree ford probe 2.0 16v white 101k n reg on irish plates, he had come down from girvan a scottish coast to house sit and i kinda picked up on this on haggling he knocked me down, then tried to offer this car too in deal i said i didnt need it etc, had one inline (but didnt) anyway in end he gave me it as couldnt drive two back and got amount of cash wanted,
it was luckey he saw the exact car he wanted in same town as me, i just took it round and he bought it my car, so ive been running it around for 2 months for free all i paid for is the tax so it sbeen usefull till found my golf, dunno if can post non vag stuff on here not that you want to see it, can put up ics if want. i thought it drove ok for free there got nice gearboxes and clutch and has flat handling good grip but the rides awful and the car is poorly built, it has got lots surface rust, curbed alloys a knocking wishbone bush, smells of cigarette smoke, it is a bit tatty but been reliable, unfortunaly the tyres are low on th e17's and think ones bucked as it wobbles wheel sometimes and cant go over 70 a shakes cars to bits, and tyres where balenced too

I got it on ebay for £500 or offer hopefully i can get a few £100 for it as its taxed and moted till oct, but as a wiper blade snapped of a scratched the screen i expect it will affect its value as will nee detching out a sin driver vision

I do agree that the prices some ask are bizarre. Way off the mark or totally cheap as chips. Gets what ya pay for, i just take the gamble and see what i end up with.
