Yo,
need some help with lowering my car, could someone tell me if these springs would do the job http://www.rennsport.co.uk/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=1818 (http://www.rennsport.co.uk/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=1818) or would i have to buy shocks and dampers as well? has anyone used Gmax before?
also could someone possibly give me a rough price a garage would charge to fit them?
thanks smiley

presuming your car is either a 1.0 or a 1.3, then they should be fine, you can use the original shocks etc, but ride quality is reduced as compared to a full set of shocks.
i've a couple of cars lowered by garages, usually around 40£ for each end, maybe a little less.
not hard if you know someone with spring compressors and do it yourself...

mines a 1.6 ... there isnt any springs for sale that will drop 60mm for a 1.6 :undecided: ... i dont think any way.
I would do it myself but i f@kin' hate working with springs of any size lol guess il be giving Power and Performance a bell.
would you guys reccomend i go for new shocks and dampers then?
thanks for your help.

avoid gmax or spax, imho the ride and handling are crap. I had some Spax on my G60 when i bought it and they were Rubbish.

ok thanks, what lowering springs would you recommend, does anyone have a link to a good site?

As much as i disagreed with you when i put my Spax springs on and you said that to me, i now agree after living with it for a year! They give a very harsh ride, back-breaking sometimes :embarassed:

not to mention stupid handling, where they dreampt up their spring rates from I have no idea! the back end of the car was waaay to stiff.

if it were me i'd but a whole new seet of springs, shocks and dampeners, the whole shabang! no point in buying something thats gonna make your car handle worse... even if it does lower it a couple of inches.
and i fully agree with the spax and gmax, had 2 cars with them on and neither handles half as well as my golf with eibach, not even close.

 Hi,
Won't a set off a gti lower for you, I thought the gti was 20mm lower than the rest of the range, if so then I think you'd find it easy to find a full set ready made from someone on the forum or ebay if it came to it, as long as some history came with them I suspect you could get a few years usage out of them, cheaper than 80 quid for just springs anyway, but if you paid 200 quid for a set of springs and shocks you always got the option if something does go wrong round the corner, you could almost get your money back on a decent set.
