Just been giving the engine a quick look over and checking the air filter and noticed lots of oil round the top and the hole at the back of the box covered up ???
Any ideas why the guy i bought it off would do that ???
Also can you just fit a new Air Filter(cone) or new airbox on a K-Jet ???
Cheers for any help
Soz for the picture it was on my mobile.

lots of oil could mean that the engine has been over filled at some point and the oil comes back up through the throttle body and out of the air filter. I have had this happen to my car before!
its best to take the whole lot apart for some cleaning action! we used carb cleaner which did the trick!
As for air filters, i'd recommend a k&n panel filter which is a direct replacment for the standard unit.
A popular mod is to cut a hole in the LOWER OUTSIDE part of the airbox, this (in theory) allows higher airflow without exposing the filter to higher temp air (that a cone filter would suck in). Also gives a throaty sounding roar when you put you foot down and open the second butterfly in the throttle body but no increase in noise level when driving sensibly or at idle!

Cheers, I did wonder as the clown who had it be4 me has defo over filled the engine with oil, checked the dipstick the other day and it was nearly half way up it !!!

half way up the dipstick?? i would drain that off asap! then strip down all this and carefully clean with carb cleaner. you can go even further and remove the entire inlet manifold from here and clean that out too while its off? be cautious while cleaning the delicate butterfly's in the throttle body and air flow meter.

Ok mate will do, busy weekend ahead methinks !!!

Just gonna clean it all out and drain the oil, having a full service next week too.
Gonna put a new pannel filter in till i decide what i'm gonna do with the engine.
What's the best pannel ??? K&N, Pipercross, Green, Jetex ???
Cheers

just get a K&N, or any other cotton based filter

oil will generally work its way into the airbox on k-jet motors for some reason, 16vs seem particularly bad for this! The blocked off pipe is just part of the warm air feed system, its designed to make the engine warm up quicker thats all, no probs if its blocked off.

dont run your 16v to the neck with oil. i always run it halfway between the max & min mark. it will stop it blowing oil into the airbox. and it wont do it any harm either, just check the level every month
