Right I've done a search, but didn't want to post in an old thread.
Yesterday on my way to work the oil pressure light came on and flashed very slowly and lightly. About four hours later it was still doing the same.
On my way home, it didn't flash at all. I got in and checked various things on various Golf websites and it seemed to point to a few things i.e. sensors, oil pick up, oil pump etc.
I went out and checked to see if there were any leaks (none I could see) and made sure both wires on the sensors were connected. I then tried the car again and now the oil pressure light was flashing fully, but still no buzzer.
I then did another search and found this:
always worth replacing both the oil pressure sensors before you do anything else, from the symptoms it sounds like the black/brown low pressure sensor with the blue wire is at fault. Check the wiring for damage, and the oil pressure warning control board in the clocks can sometimes be faulty also.
If the oil pump was on the way out you would get the oil pressure warning light and a buzzer sound over 2k rpm, the white sensor with the yellow wire is reponsible for this. To test its working disconnect the yellow wire and rev the engine over 2k. If the buzzer comes on that means the high pressure warning switch is working and that your oil pump is probably fine.
I've now tried the highlighted part and my light does flash and buzzer does come on at over 2k.
What should be my next step - change the sensors to see if that rectifies it, or get a pressure test?
I'm just wondering as my local garage were going to charge me £30 the other week to do a compression test on a different car, I'd rather put that £30 towards a new oil pump tbh. I just thought as I'm not actually using the car because of this problem, I might be better off changing the sensors first.

If it was me I'd change the sensors first, sensors do fail over time and even if the pump did have to be replaced, I'd want the sensors to last at least as long as the new pump, to avoid further problems. Hope that makes some kind of sense lol

Carefully slide the rubber sealing boot up the wire on each sensor and see if it is full of oil.
If it is the sensor is kaput.
Also check the spade connections to the sensors, make sure they are tight and clean.
Check wires aren't broken either.
Even if they look ok I would still replace them as the cheapest option.
Could be due to the clocks though, never come across it with the oil light but the water temp light flashing intermittantly is quite common due to a failing circuit board on the instruments.

ive just had a simular problem...
in the end i'd changed both sensors, and checked and changed the oil pump(even though it looked fine) and it seems to have solved the problem. also changed both spade connectors just to be safe. all in all cost around 60£ ish...
although, my problem was the light and buzzer... but now at idle i have the light flashing erraticaly, so gonna have it tuned and see if that solved it.

I've now tried disconnecting the blue wire and when I do this nothing flashes (at first it flashed slowly, but not sure if any contact was made).
Put the blue wire on again and it flashed all the time. Took the blue wire off again and no flash at all.

I've changed the white sensor at the front, no change. At GSF in Newcastle they gave me the sender at the back at the engine, rather than the one that connects to the blue wire, so I changed that and again no change.
When the blue wire is diconnected the light doesn't flash - what is this one actually for?
