Title: I filled my g/box with water...I think
Post by: Ben Lessani on 02 July 2007, 21:25
I was flushing out the rad, as the water is constantly brown - stupid old cars. And in my ignorance I never realised that the cap covering the g/box (right next to the block on the top) wasn't on it, and that all the water from the hose filled it up.

The cap hasn't been on the g/box for a long time, so I'm thinking I should really flush it out.

Anyone have any thoughts on the level of problems im going to run into?

Ben

IF I WERE YOU I WOULD BUY A HAYNES MANUAL AS IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU DONT HAVE A CLUE. LOL

YOU HAVE FILL THE FLYWHEEL BALL HOUSING. DONT WORRY. TAKE YOUR CAR FOR A SPIN AND BY THE TIME YOU GET BACK IT WILL HAVE GONE. THE HOLE IS USUALLY COVERED WITH A GREEN CAP BUT ALOT OF MECHANICS NEVER BOTHER TO PUT THEN BACK.

YOU ARE SAFE BROTHER.

I thought it might be the flywheel housing, but I wasn't 100%, hence why I did a little post on here. Thanks for the help, let me offer some.. the CAPS LOCK button can be pressed to make internet communication easier!

As already said the hole in the top of the bell housing is to check the timing and should have a Green rubber plug in it.

I doubt if you have done too much harm as there is a hole in the bottom to allow oil to drain out if the crank oil seal leaks.

The water will have drained out so a quick spin to heat everything up should dry the rest out nicely.
