Title: mk 2 aerial query
Post by: rowlers on 02 July 2007, 19:27
Just been trying to sort my crappy radio reception..
Found that their is a wire that is joined onto the main aerial coaxial cable, it is in is own insulated sheath, but can be stripped from the main co-ax (hope that make sence!) It is black with a copper stranded core - just like a power cable would be.

Is this the power for the amplifier thing for the aerial, what does it need to be connected to??

If it is not a power for the amplifier what is it and what does it connect to???

It never has been connected as far as I'm aware!!!

cheers

Its the live feed to the amplfier built in youre aerial , need to connect it to 12v.
Should instantly improve youre reception .
If it doesnt you need to replace youre aerial.
I removed mine from a Vauxhall Omega estate .

I assume any ignition live will do? Or do I need to connect it to the remote line with my sub?

the best place is the 'powered antenna' wire of your headunit, usually blue, looks very similar to the amp remote wire, but one will be striped and the other wont, but yeah, any would do, but its just easier to do it off the HU. even the red ( or yellow!) head unit wire.

don't think my HU has a powered antenna cable??? Couldn't see it alst night anyway, will have another look 2night.

If that doesn't help the reception I assume my beesting is fecked and need a new one???

Where from, how much how easy to swap??

Cheers

oh yeah.... have you checked the earth?!!! all these arials and stuff. Go DAB, reception problems just dissapear! and more stations than you can shake a stick at. There is a new version coming out soon though, i think it works off satellite. Ment to be even better!

new aerial fitted, reception is a lot better, but it is no where near as good as my old sony HU!

Might be tempted to junk the JVC an go back to sony!

Anyone know if JVC tuners are poor compared to other makes?

Might be worth you guys getting a decent aerial?! My old 16V one was rubbish, I got fed up of it keep searching and especially once when I was going around the M25 and it couldn't find anything!  Bought  Hirshman one and it's great! Picks up 10 times the amount of stations and an even get Radio 5 live sports clearly in most areas!

I just fitted a new aerial - I can pick up loads of stations but always get static and engine noise. Have read a few posts and am I right in thinking there should be an earth strap on the dizzy cap that helps stop this??   :undecided:

I'm sure i've been told the earth strap from the body to wing is meant to stop interference.
