Hello peeps
Not been contributing much to the site lately, but still popping in for a nosey now and then. I am probably going to be selling my GTI and buying a diesel . Buying a new house out in the sticks, and going to be doing a lot of commuting.
So, will most likely be selling the GTI in the next few weeks, and was wondering if there was much interest (or opinions on value) before I put it on the "For Sale" section. Once I've made a final decision on what to do, I'll post it in the right place.
I'll miss her a lot, but might compensate myself with a Mk1 run-around for the summer!
Here's some reminder pics and spec

Dude this probably doesn't help much but if you want my advice I'd keep the house you've got and keep the GTI - it looks fab!
-
Thanks Tony - I really would like to keep her, but my weekly mileage is going to be seriously cranked up.
-
What a superb looking car lovely interior, you will regret selling it,but looking at it,you will sell it quite easily
-
Just paid £18.5K for an 06 reg 31/05/06, 10K miles, united grey, 3dr, leather, 18" monza's if this is any help.
I know this wont, car looks superb.

Sad to hear you're selling the GTI
You will not be disappointed with a TDI though. My last one was a 140 GTTDI DSG and with the Milltek and remap put out 185BHP and 290ftlb  whilst still returning an ownership average of 45mpg . If you are going to be doing mainly motorway miles i'd expect it to be even more than that . The ride is also slightly smoother/softer than the GTI, so it should be more cossetting on a long journey. I must agree though that the sound of the engine is a bit on the rough side. :undecided:
-
Shame that your having to let her go. I remember when you posted the Pics before and I thought then that she looked fabulous then.
-
Thanks for all your comments people. Like I said, I'll be sad to see her go.
Hurdy, I had the SE TDI (103 bhp) before I got the GTI and it was, as expected, markedly more comfortable. I'll be looking into possible diesel options including the 140 gt tdi, an A3 or A4, and maybe even (whisper it) a beemer.
And thanks for the info on price TASH1 - if I got near that I'd be quite happy.
TagnuT, ed30 - don't make this harder than it already is.
Let me just do the calculations one more time, see if I can convince myself that I can keep the GTI...
-
Any more opinions on value, or indeed any potential interest?
-
Ideal solution for you :nerd:
use public transport during the week
on the money you save modify the engine to the hilt and enjoy your weekends
problem solved
-
I like your thinking ed30.
House sale will got through in a matter of weeks, and I'll be either driving 1.5 miles to train station (in one of the less salubrious parts of Scotland, and where I don't want to leave my car all day) or driving back and forth to work adding around 200 miles a week to my normal mileage.
Also, the extra readies could be better spent on doing up the new pad, than sitting in the driveway looking pretty.
Still, I haven't made a final decision either way, but selling seems the most sensible option.

Hi - I'm in a similar situation - and not wanting to hi-jack your post.....
06 9k miles,3 dr leather/Satnav/zenons/cruise/18" Monzas/reverse sensors etc., etc - seem to be being bid c.£17 k - which frankly is a p*sstake
No real need to sell - just an itch to get back to a diesel Vrs estate....
I'm sure you'll get close to your price privately - it only takes one wise person
-
I nearly bought a '55 plate 5dr, 27k with DSG, up at £16,850 at my local main dealer, I reckon they would have done a deal at just over £16k. If it had had a sunroof and highline, I would have bought it, but not really in the market just yet.
Suggests to me that as yours is a 3dr manual, with a few extras, £17k is prob about the money.
-
Thanks for your additional thoughts on price.
There seems to be a fair bit of regional variation in GTI prices. Generally speaking, I would say that down South the prices are a bit lower, probably as it's much more populous and therefore there are more cars to choose from. In Scotland, there aren't as many for sale, so they seem to demand a slightly higher price.

Your correct, had a mate in the trade who was a used sales director, basically drove around the country from auction house to auction house he used to buy cars down south, generally top end stuff and bring it up North to sell at a more healthy profit??
-
That's a sweet looking GTI cat . The GTI's may go for more cash up north , but they are harder to sell as there is less money up here on the whole. I studied the 'Trader for weeks before I bought my car and there were some cars that had been up for sale for a couple of months.

That's interesting to know. I know my own GTI was obtained by the dealer that I bought it from at a "VW in-house" auction down South. Or at least that's what he told me.

That's a fair point. I have also noticed GTIs and R32s for sale for a fair while up here. And you're right, generally speaking there's not so much dough doing the rounds.
And thanks for your comments. :smug: Although once it's sold I'll be more like
