Title: MK5 R32 - Clutch Pedal Vibration & various other noises....
Post by: MattRS on 29 June 2007, 22:16
Hi all,

I have a Mk5 R32 with manual gearbox - new in March 2007. The car has covered 4,000 miles, and apart from the horrendous number of rattles inside the car, I've been noticing that the gearbox has been getting more notchy along with vibrations felt through the clutch pedal.

Over the last couple of days, stuck in traffic, i've been noticing increasingly heavy vibration through the clutch pedal - particularly under load at around 2000-2500rpm, but also as you dip the pedal by 1-2cm.  If you pull away in fourth gear, and accelerate hard, a noise that I can only describe as 'pinking' can be heard. Also, when running over speedbumps, etc i'm aware of something sounding loose under the car at the front, and the same noise can also be heard sometimes on changing gear (more of a 'clunk').

I'd appreciate some direction so that I can hold an intelligent conversation with my local dealer next week (if that's possible !)

Many thanks in advance

Matt

Haven'tgot a R32 but on occasions I can feel a vibration through my GTI clutch. Also felt this in my last car (Porsche Boxster). Best advice I can give is get it checked by dealer and adopt a quick, clean and relaxed gear change action. Don't dwell on the change and let it compromise your driving experience - city driving and holding onto the clutch doesn't help :undecided:

If you can hear pinking, the timing is out and it needs to be sorted - what fuel are you using ? Not being condescending but have you got sufficinent revs on ?

The only way to go over speedhumps is SLOW SLOW SLOW- one set of wheels at a time (nearside  - offside) - never straddle them as it puts unnecessary strain on the suspension and tyre inner walls

I have recently noticed this too! It seems to be slightly worse if I gently apply the bakes also. The only way I can describe the noise and feeling is its as if the clutch (cable??) is catching on something. I can feel the vibrations through the clutch more if I just rest my foot on the clutch very gently. I dont know if this is the pinking you mentioned above. I also on accasions have heard what seems to be the clutch or gearbox making a loud noise whilst changing. Is this whats refered to as clunky?? Because the gear change remains quite smooth.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! thx

(sorry about the lack of technical information)
