Title: Fuel Issues - please help i need it for the w/e!
Post by: kyle on 28 June 2007, 21:19
Went to go out in the valver today and it wouldnt start! The fuel pump isnt priming when u turn on the ignition. However the fuel pump works fine when run off of a seperate battery i discovered. Did this tother week then sorted its self out for some reason!? All the fuses are fine bar some white stuff around the number 18 so have filled that with wd40 now!

Also when the 4 pin plug for the fuel pump was put onto a tester lamp it was hardly showing up at all - is that normal?

Have ordered a new fuse relay so hoping that it maybe that. Is there anything else it could be?

Thanks

Could be battery might be worth taking to to halfrauds or kwik sh!t for a battery condition check then get a new one from GSF if it's goosed :)

it will crank over no probs just wont fire as its not getting fuel pumped through, so could it still be the battery

could be matey it's one of things that I've seen a few times intermittant faults but battery still cranks engine, change everything else and then give up try another battery fault goes away. The cabling to the starter is heavy gauge whereas the cable feeding the instruments and cabin electrics is much lighter gauge. Or it could be a bad connection, water getting into the fusebox causing a problem but I can't see why a different battery would cure it.

dont know weather this will help but.................

2 weeks ago the wifes mk3 8v gti wouldnt start untill around the 4th go. then once it started it would idle fine. then when driving you put your foot down and put the engine under load the car bogged down.

turned out to be fuel starvation. although the pump was running it was only producing just over 1 bar instead of 2.5 bar. might be worth checking fuel delivery.

incidently it cost me 26o quid to find out and have a new pump fitted.
