Just dropped the GTI off this afternoon for them to do its first service. They are also doing a update of software (whats this??).
Anyhow, I asked how much it would probably cost and the girl said about £200 . Is this correct? How much was your first service?
Thanks

My first long-life service was £154..not too bad.
-
£154. Thats what I was hoping to pay

ECU software upgrade - should be free of charge. Other forum members have had it done recently.
Haven't had my first service yet, but expecting in the region of £150ish - only an oil change service after all

What inspired you to take it in? How many miles have you done and how old is it?
Just clicked over 7000 and coming up to 1 year old... not a clue as to when the service is due, I read the manual and it say 'according to multi function display' Very helpful!?

My local dealer has the first service listed as £155 inc vat.
I thought all dealers had the price list for services etc listed somewhere in their dealership? Did you see one cartmell? If they do and it's less than what they have verbally quoted you it seems that they maybe trying to charge man hours for the software upgrade

I asked the girl at reception how much is was likely to be. 'Cause its a GTI probably £200' she said. Suppose I will only find out today when I pick it up. I was thinking it couldnt be any more than £150.
The software upgrade is a waranty issue, and I didnt know anything about it until I booked it in for a service. Ive had the car 14months and its done 10,000miles.
Also, does anyone else ever get decent replacement car. I never have had one yet. I got a 1.2 polo and Ive been trying to drive it like my GTI. Scarey. Should really complain as when I had a leon Cupra I was given an old ford orion with straw in the back seat. At least the VW dealer has respectable cars.
-
Time and distance service £70. Had a rear wiper with a mind of its own replaced under warranty and software update too.
Lent me a Golf plus which drove like a jelly on wheels, makes you appreciate your GTI even more!
-
Just got the gti back and parted with £130. This was better than the £200 I expected.
Also, it was like getting into a new car after spending a day in a polo
-
I just had mine done.
The first T&D service, ie oil and filter change for £105. But that was with me supplying my own oil. Their normal price would have been £145.
Don't forget, services will be very different between the variable interval LongLife services, compared to the fixed interval Time and Distance regimes - so it would be helpful to state what regime you are on, for future reference.

Didn't want to start another boring thread about servicing but if anyones interested I just booked my Edition 30 in for its first service, will be at 9,800miles, and have been quoted £98.76 for it, including oil change, filter and the other checks, 'ECU health check' as she called it etc. Seemed very cheap to me. Not that I'm complaining!! Anyone else had the first service completed on their GTI at this milage yet?
-
I think I will print this thread and take it with me tomorrow when my ED30 is in for first 'longlife' - Kings Lynn VW said the first service is £270
From what you guys are saying they are way out of order.
-
My gti had its first service last week t&d it cost £128.plus had ecu upgrade thats the second time its had this upgrade, this is done under warranty and your dealer will bill VW.
-

Did they do anything other than the oil change, filters etc.? - seems very steep! you on longlife? I'm not, and I imagine the longlife service is more expensive, although I don't know for sure..
-
£129 for first service, on t&d
reasonable i thought
-
Mine was time and distance, 10,150mls supplied castrol edge oil(5 litres £50 halfords),and they removed front pads, cleaned calipers and re copperslipped as were squilling, pushed my carpet back at drivers seat belt bottom rail, new oil filter, washed and hoovered.£54.
Very happy with this, but i did spend 20 mins on the phone arrguing my case on certain issues on a £27,500 pound car!! no i wont pay half for the brake squeal.
Keep the price down, supply your own oil,get to know the service manager,vw mill at cleadon, outskirts of mackem land are getting much better, now i have had a few stiff talkings, and only deal with one bloke there now.
Chris.
