Title: Mobile speed camera vans
Post by: antgti on 16 February 2004, 11:52
Just come from a meeting in maidstone and on the A249 they had the mobile speed camera van parked up in a layby.  Now does anyone know the regs re this, Firstly can they be parked uip and doing people in an area where there are no speed camera signs or speed limit signs (probably yes)

But more importantly, on the little peugeot partner vans they use round hre, do they have to have the back door open to mean they are monitoring you, Cos i thought they had to have the rear door open.  I probably am all right as speedo was showing 65 but as i do about 4000 miles a month am scared sh!tless of getting points.

I've got to admit, i give another 5 yrs and the fast cars we see built today will gone from the highways if the speeding lottery does not get addressed soon.  Think Mr blair is a distant Relation of Mr Musolinni..............

I got nabbed in Leicestershire by one. Radar detector went off but couldn't slow down in time. Brown envelope landed on my mat a few days later (92 in a 70). I have now invested in an interesting little device that sits under the front number plate and throws back an infra red beam (to open my garage door of course)!

yeah i heard about this, some bloke in kent got done for using it as they took him to court and he could'nt prove that he had a garage door for it, so he got done for perverting the course of justice as well.

Also we have another van in kent now, seen it last 2 days on the A2.  It is a large LGV transporter van, but at the top of the doors on the rear are two windows.  Down the road about half a mile there are then 10  coppers or more that pull you in, apparently this van can do you fro Mobile phone, Seatbelt tax disc and of course speeding.  For christ sake, Tax disc yes but talk about bloody big brother, One of the delivery drivers at my mates place got done by it yesterday for no seatbelt, sorry as i said before this is simply too MUCH!

Tell us more about your intresting device :)

It is called a 'laser diffuser' and is designed to throw back an infra red beam to confuse mobile speed cameras and hand held laser guns. As Ant said it is getting very Big Brother out on the highways so any devices that are designed to preserve your licence are welcome. I would however stress that I do not condone breaking the speed limit in built up areas, at accident blackspots or when weather conditions are poor, but on an empty straight stretch of dual carriageway or motorway with light traffic and good weather the current 70mph limit is too low and one should be able to indulge the right foot!

To quote The Terminator - "I would however stress that I do not condone breaking the speed limit in built up areas, at accident blackspots or when weather conditions are poor, but on an empty straight stretch of dual carriageway or motorway with light traffic and good weather the current 70mph limit is too low and one should be able to indulge the right foot"

I could not put it better myself!

all i've got to say is tossers!

i've had enough of this big bro mentality - need to exercise a little good nature and common sense when sighting these vans!  >:(

personally, i've just been busted on the a1058 coast road in newcastle. tossers were sat up on a raised piece of trunk road next to the dual carriageway. opened my gti up as i was approaching the national speed limit section and got busted. no police chase just an innocuous brown 'envelope of doom' on the door at a few weeks later.

interestingly enough, a police source of mine has told me that the ticket has to be issued within 3 weeks of the offence taking place with the benefit of a few addtional days for administration (bollocks really  :o)

anyhow, if they fall outside of this timeframe, so i'm told, the ticket does not stand (be an interesting one to challenge). Also (sorry if i'm rambling...), the van has to be adequately marked, ie chevrons across the back of it. its no longer allowed for them to have these so called stealth-traps. this exposes the moral of my story, the van that busted my good self was completely white on the back and had no markings at all (do i challenge it???? at the mo, i've enough rage induced motivation to have a bash).

the only thing that gave it away was the 'false' offside rear window. there seem to be 2 types of vans, one sort of this type and the other with 2 air vent style openings in the top of both back doors.

only thing you can be sure of is that both vans contain the lowest form of human intelligence acting under the road safety partnership banner (nothing to do wth some shi*e copper after a few stripes and a better title then?)

yes, i am bitter  >:(, and once again, apologise for ranting, but it seems that the police nowadays are more at home in the back of vans than acting as a deterrant on the roads by being seen in traffic patrol cars on the nations roads.

Another style of tw*ts in vans that I've seen are the ones they commonly use in Wales. Imagine a transit style van and the back doors usually have window style panels above the door handle. In this case they have those panels converted to tinted windows and they can sit in the back with their laser/camera, with the windows raised and just nail every single person they see for ?60.00 and 3 penalty points. B*stards.

This form of policing doesnt catch reckless drivers or drunk drivers, it purely aims at profits.

These vans and most other 'road safety' vans always seem to have orange sirens on the roof, so they look even less like police and im sure wouldnt help anyone in distress or do any proper public service duty, just rip / p*ss us all off.

I hate the ******s. Do my council taxes contribute to keeping these people employed? Unbelievable

Rant over till next time
