Our mk3 8v went through no problems and no advisories. Can stop panicking now, then the tester said he wanted to buy it off us.

Without trying to piss on your fire your car has got to be in fairly bad knick to fail an MOT.
-
True enough, fire still burning!

indeed even the car in this thread http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/thread/934809.aspx had a valid MOT apparently
EDIT - meant to add congrats though! always a nice feeling when the car passes first time  although i've only experienced the joy the once lol

I think everybody know's an m.o.t place that is lets say "easy going!!"... I have just had mine m.o.t'd by what's locally known as the strictest place in town and it failed first time on a couple of minor fault's that would be fine/advisory in other places..... That car on uk-mkiv's is really pushing it tho

With the new MOT there is very little scope for the tester to let things go like!
Mine passed on Saturday with a couple of advisories - rear wheel bearings which I got done there and then!
-
i have never ever had a car that has gone through an mot first time.
what age and mileage is your mk3 8v curlie?
-
Mine went though 1st time last Friday as it goes they said there were problems with the emmisions but they "were ok at the time of testing"
That's the first tiome a cars ever gone straight through for me.
-
I passed mine with a nail in the front tyre . . . .
Says it all tbh

Its a 97 on a `p` and its done 101k. I use a few different test stations and i have had a few cars go straight through, mx5, micra, 626, even a celica which hadnt turned a wheel for 6 years!

my golf has passed first time for the last 4 MOT's... now thats partly because i've spent so long replacing most of it and only do about 3k miles a year. my passat just failed on leaking power steering rack + split gaiter, front brake pipe corroded and a bit of welding (20p sized hole  )... not too bad for an old barge!
