Title: 16v grill badge
Post by: jte on 16 February 2004, 09:42
Over the weekend some Pikey retard decided to wrench my nice red 16v badge out of my grill, causing a nice scratch on the way.  This is very annoying.

Does anyone know how much these cost at VW and if they can be sourced anywhere else?

I know it's a bit trivial but i did quite like it.  And a new one will cover the scratch!!

Cheers Pimpster, thought VW would me more expensive.  I should be more optimistic!

Anyone know why not all 16v's have the 16v badge on the front? My car just has a Gti on the front grille, it has a small 16v badge on the rear. Doesn't bother me, prefer it that way I think, was just curious!

Thanks

At a guess i would say someone nicked the 16v badge from your car and it was replaced by a GTI badge.  I don't know whether they all came with a 16v badge as standard or you could choose from new.

Most of the valvers i've seen have the 16v on the front, but all the valvers I looked at when I bought this one (well 4 of them) had just GTi, wondered if it was cos they were all pre 1997 cars as most of the 16v Badges I have seen have been on P & R reg cars, but then I saw a P reg 16v yesterday in a car park with just Gti in the grille. Strange, nevermind!

My 1994 M-reg 16v has a GTi badge on the front with a red 16v badge on the rear, which is correct according to the pictures in the original VW sales brochure.
I think VW made the change in 1995/96.

The GTi badge looks much nicer on a 16v than the 16v badge itself in my opinion.

nooo!! the GTI badge is horrible! its too big..

look at the size of the 16v and vr6 ones in comparison, they both fit between the grillie slats...  why is the gti one so much bigger..?

I agree with overseer.  Also depends on the colour of the car.  Mine's Dragon Green so the red bits look ok, looks very nice on Black ones!  If it's purple or red then the GTi badge would be better, i think.

I dunno, I just think the GTI badge is more subtle, the screaming red 16V comes across almost a tad guach? and 80's. Still, whatever floats your boat I suppose, and I will admit the 16v badge does look good on black examples. I just wish VW had made the 16V decals more subtle, like the ones on the Mk2.
