Title: Getting laquered
Post by: dadrathers on 22 June 2007, 22:18
I need to do a paint job on my front (plastic) bumper which is in Brilliant Black Metallic.

I have never sprayed using metallic before so,

1. How much laquer do I need compared with the metallic paint?

2. Should I get the laquer from VW - I have no choice with the paint?

3. Any tips for doing a top job - I am OK with preparation and undercoat etc?

Cheers.

if you get vw paint they come in packs with the lacquer... doesnae matter much about the lacquer tho, but go with genuine vag paint to get a better colour match.

prep is everything, get a really good smooth surface before you start, few coats of paint and a few more lacquer on top once it's done to protect it. you'll need a fair few cans cos the vag ones are tiiiiny!

edit - 2 coats of primer too before you start! you can flat it off with some 1500 paper between coats if you want a smoother finish
