Title: Fishy Smell
Post by: spikey on 15 February 2004, 20:19
we have just bought a 2000 x reg 1.8T golf GTI after our new BMW mini was stolen

after driving quite hard for a few miles and stopping you could smell something strange from the engine. I dont know if the garage had steamed cleaned with a chemical is is this normal.

Can you also advise and what milage does the cam belt need changing and it is usual to get a lot of road noise from the tyres at low speed

i think the cambelts are normaly changed at 60.000 on newer cars! not sure tho.

do you have a service book if its been kept up to date that should tell you if its been changed....

about the funny smell does it come from the engine when you open the bonnet or from inside the car if its inside it may be the air con theses are known for making smells......
