Title: 3 doors - getting into back seats!
Post by: p3eps on 21 June 2007, 21:26
I've had a look in the manual, but cant see anything about this...

At the weekend my passenger door decided to play up - and wouldnt open at all (away being fixed just now).
I had to chauffeur my girlfriend about in the back seat since I wouldnt let her climb over into the front passenger seat!
Every time I pulled the handle to move the driver seat out of the way, it wouldn't return to where it started - and I had to fidget for a bit trying to get my seat back to where I like it!

Am I doing something wrong?  Is there a way of letting passengers out from behind you without losing your seat position?

Yep mine does this most of the time and then sometimes it goes back to where it was, I think there is a metal slider in the rail which moves with the grab handle, I think this may stick.

Will have a look the weekend and may have to get the car in.

I struggled with this at first.

Lift the lever to fold the backrest forwards. It now locks forwards but you don't hear any clicks or clunks, it just locks.

Then you can slide the seat forwards, and back. To return it to the old position, slide it back then lift the handle again to release the backrest to vertical where it locks again.

Comprende??

(if you lift the back rest before sliding the seat back it locks where it is, i.e. too far forward)

I think thats the problem I was having!  So I need to slide the seat back before lifting the handle again?

Do that but mine goes all the way back, doesnt stop at the set position before lifting handle. I know I am doing it right but I think the piece that set the position is jammed.

Correct. (might have to double check tonight...)

This is what put me off buying the 3 door. The dealer had problems too, sometimes it worked other times it didn't. I love the look but with having kids, I just couldn't take the risk so opted for the 5 door. I think if you don't use the back much it ain't a problem.

My drivers side goes back to the correct postion, but the passenger just clicks all the way back.

I don't know why VW had to change the seat design from the mkIV Golf were the seat has a scissor action.

Yep checked tonight, there is a small square shiny piece of metal in the runner, I pulled this forward and this sets the position of the seat, assume this is supposed to move with the seat when you pull the adjustment handle but mine doesn't come forward just gets pushed back.

Will have to take the car in.

Drop of oil on the silver item in the runner and on the runner and all's fine works a treat now.
