Which Colour
would you choose if you were to get a MK5?
-
I'd go for black
-
I'd probably go for black too, but I've not been able to see any pics of a black one on the internet. Got any links to one?
I'm thinking of taking my shoddy 1.8T MK4 back tomorrow and PX'ing it for a 1.6 SE FSi, only if they'll do a good deal though.
-
Not seen any pics on the net, but saw one in the flesh at my local dealers on launch night.
It was a black 140bhp tdi with 17" split rims (dealer fit option). It looked teriffic, especially in black, the paint finish is incredible on the Mk5
Looked very nice indeed. Give your local dealership a ring and ask them to find out where the nearest black demonstrator is.
-
Ok, I may just do that.
Are they officially available to buy now? Including the four door model? What's the waiting time?
Cheers
-
I'm pretty sure they're available now, when I was at the dealership getting sime warrany work done on Friday, they had the demonstrator out doing test drives and stuff, and I overheard a salesman talking a couple through a sale (didn't hear what sort of delivery time though, sorry).
-
Wait for the GTI!!!!
-
that puppy ain't available until november
-
The best things come to those who wait!
-
yellow nuff said ;)
-
There is a solid darkish grey (battleship grey) Tdi and black 1.6 at my local dealership and in grey it looks wicked!. Dont go for black, it dont look that good in black!
-
I posted pics of a black GTI mk5 on another thread!!!
but nobody bothered to comment... :P
id choose black
-
I do quite like it in Silver.
Especially this one :)

Still not seen a black one.
-
Clear cut,
Has to be Tornado Red
Feel the road ! :D
-
i'd go for black or silver. problem with black cars is they are a pain to wash.

-
I've just ordered a 1.6 FSi SE - Diamond Black :) - Sad I'll be missing out on the GTI performance though :(. I know this is a GTI forum but I'll post a pic once I get it - Could be up to 8 weeks though.
-
Congratulations mate, well done.
I think the Mk5 is a thoroughly nice car.
In terms of not having the performance, the chassis is that much of an improvement, you'll be outhandling any non-turbo or 'R' badged MK4 golfs, so you won't be much slower on the move!
Did you get a good deal? Did you add on any options? They look great in black, the paint finish on the Mk5 is incredible

Cheers S11EPS
I test drove one yesterday (1.6) and was very impressed with how solid it felt and its handling, the guy took me on a good variety of roads - straights and bendy country lanes. I was also contemplating, forgive me, a Toyota Corolla 1.6 T3 V VTi, which I test drove today, the engine of the Toyota felt more revvy and slightly quicker off the mark, but it just didn't have the handling and feel of the VW - The Toyota would have saved me a couple of K - but in the long term I want a motor I will be happy with for a long time and the MK5 swung it for me and plus it's a VW.
I didn't get a bad deal, neither was it a brilliant deal. But becuase I'd only had my MK4 from the dealership for little over a month and I wasn't happy with it, they're letting me exchange it without losing any cost for what I paid for the car. The car I test drove yesterday was at a different dealership because I was in the area at the time - they would have charged me a grand more than what I'm currently paying because I didn't get my MK4 from them.
There are no options on it - I would have liked to have had the sporty seats with the Opera Anthrecite covering but that was only available on the GT TDI models.
Are you tempted to go for one S11EPS?
-
Mine is on lease til June 05, so whilst I do look at new cars almost everyday, I can't do anything for 18 months.
I'm certainly interested to see what the GTi is gonna be like, but whatever I get next it'll be running the DSG box - I drive in London every day, and I'm sick of manuals!
ill look forward to seeing the pics of your new beast mate, well done again!

Just found this:

-
just order a 2.0 GT FSI in diamond black. Went up north (midlands, anywhere above watford is the north!) got just under 10% of the list price. don't get the car till april though
-
Should have my 1.6 fsi SE in just over a week :). Saw a diamond black MK5 on the road the other day and it looked stunning.
-
its got to be laser blue pearl.
I would go for one of these but i think loking at spec its got to be GT level at least to get all the goodies like 2zone climate, got to have the 17's added, plus gotta have the winter pack, and the foldy mirrors.
But i'll wait till end of the year when the interesting variants come out, 200 bhp diesel will be fun, especially with a DSG box and hopefully 4 wheel drive.
PS looked at that link for the mk5 gttdi and thats a good price, i checked ltsb staff cars and i can' tbeat it there and they are usually up to 25% reduced(staff perk).
But check this out, some last of the line mk4's run out stock

:P
-
Good stuff.
Not got the MK5 yet - I've been told it is in transit, at the docks or something. Just hope they're not hanging on to it for a few days themselves using it for people to test drive.
-
Would have to be black IMO
-
how about just dont bother with the mk5, go out buy yaself a mint mk2 and spend the extra what is it ?16k on it?? Sorry no offense, I spose its a matter of taste but the mark 5 doesn't really set my pants on fire, kinda looks like every other car on the road these days. Respect to all golf drivers though!!! Just sticking my two pence worth in :)
-
Got it :D
Have put a few pictures in the Gallery. Too tired to figure out how to link them in this post.
So far so good, I'm surprised at how nippy it is, can't wait for the engine to loosen up. I saw my neighbour walk round it twice yesterday giving it a good eyeballing - so he must like it.
-
Congratulations mate, that looks great.
How is it to drive? Can you feel the improvement in chassis dynamics?
Mine is in for new brakes a week today, so I'll take one out for a blat then I think.
The Mk5's that I have seen and prodded and poked have been real quality items - the paint finish was the best I have ever seen.
You've got yourself a nice car there mate ;)
-
Cheers S11EPS
The drive is superb, very refined and great for crusing on motorways - it's unbelievably smooth and the cruise control makes life a lot easier.
I can definately feel a big difference in handling between this and my previous MK4.
There are NO more annoying little creaks and I suppose that's partly down to the new weld methods. The only thing that is a little dissapointing is that the interior quality let's it down a bit, too plasticy, but I can live with it :)
-
Ordered Graphite Blue pearl 3 dr GT TDi on Friday - picking up next week. Not seen any in the flesh yet of that colour....
-
Just bought my 3 door GT TDi today in reflex silver. Got a grand off list price too, so I was very happy.
Cant wait to pick it up next week. If I could afford it I would of liked 17" wheels, and perhaps leather seats as they did look nice in one of the test cars. Guess I needed a better paid paper round eh?
Fell in love with the car on the test drive, grips the road like glue and the diesel is very fruity. All in all very happy, yeah interior could of been a little better but I can put up with it.
Anyone know if you can remove the stereo on the Mk V as I have a nice unit to put in mysellf?
-
Congratulations on your new purchase mate, good choice.
That new Mk5 diesel certainly moves, and the handling is a definite imrovement over the std Mk4!
The head unit should just come straight out and your new one drop straight in - just trying to think if you'll need a fascia adapter or if you'll be left with a standard din aperture - you'll be able to tell just be looking at it.
If you do, try www.autoleads.co.uk (http://www.autoleads.co.uk) as they will no doubt carry it.
-
Cheers mate, much appreciated.
-
well, any probs yet
-
not that i wish any on ya, but with the mk4 its the rear wash wipe, are there any probs known on the mk5
-
Lol i know this thread is pretty old now but im a noob
I would say that the Golf looks best in Black, or Silver, though my 1st choise would be black.
I dont really like the red or white
