Hi all,
Sorry for yet another post re wind noise but I am very nearly at a point where I will be getting shot of my MKV Golf Gti if I can't get some sense from somewhere. :undecided:
I have had my car in at 3 stealers, had all seals replaced, doors checked, window guides replaced, car taped up etc and yet at 70mph plus, I have noticebale wind noise around the B pillar area.
can anyone help me out here and let me know the sort of noise level you should be getting in this area as the dealers have given up saying its now normal the amount of wind noise I am getting!
I live in Bournemouth Dorset and would even be happy meeting up to share with someone the noise I'm getting, I have been out in a newer version than mine and that was worse, the stealer just said VW are aware but can not help?
This is my last resort, trying to sort out myself, if this fails I will be waving goodbye to what has been my best car ever (not including wind noise of course!)
Thanks in advance for your time
T

Hi,
Can I ask you all to turn down your stereos while driving at 70-80mph  and let me know what sort of wind noise you get around the B pillar area? I do appreciate you'll get a certain element just need to know whether it's normal wind flapping noise or intrusive in anyway?
Huge thanks
Terry

Only had mine about 3 weeks, and I don't use the stereo much yet, because I used to drive a diesel
Haven't noticed the problem at all.
-
I can't hear the wind noise because of all the squeaks and rattles I've got at the mo...
But seriously, I had B-post wind noise on a previous car, and the root cause was eventually found out to be the wing mirror?! (not a VW though)
Just a thought. Good luck...

when your window is up can you physically push it up any more?
-
Don't get this in my MY2007 GTI, but the tyre noise from the Dunlop SportMaxx's is something else

No movement in the window at all once its up, I thought it mighy be slipping too but no joy there. Such a weird one though, I know that wind noise will be there as the car cuts through the air, this is different as it does sound like a flutter of air around the b pillar. Thanks though for your post, all the best T

my fathers mkv tdi is excatly the same. when ever i drive it i always comment on the wind noise coming from the drivers door. he doesn't seem to notice it. i have told him to take it back to the dealers but he shrugs his shoulders and says "theres nothing wrong with it". anything for an Easy life i suppose.

Good point... you can reset the top and bottom soft-stop positions on the window regulators. The easiest way is to activate the anti-trap by a sharp tug downwards when the glass is on its way up in auto. It will then go into step mode. Close the window fully and pull and hold the switch upwards for a couple of seconds. You should hear the relay click confirming the newly set top position. The regulator will learn its bottom position after its been lowered fully... next time it should stop short (without the clunk)

Yeah mine makes wind noise around the mirror but i stopped listening to it and its gone now, thats the secret

Strange because I find them ok, noise wise, in mine

CC - Mine are only OK on the smoothest of road surfaces, anything else - very noisy

Could it be the windscreen? I know from some factories there were problems with windscreen sealing which led to wind noise and leaks
has it ever been resealed by vw?

Old thread I realise, but did you get to the bottom of this. I picked up my new GTI on the 1st and have noticed what sounds like wind noise coming from the top rear corner of the drivers door.

I have had on e Mark V GT TDI and two Mark V GTIs and they have all have a certain level of wind noise from around the B Pillar. I took my first GTI one to the dealers for investigation and they took me out in another Mark V GTI and it was the same. I think alot depends on how far back you have your seat - mine is quite far back and at a height where my ear is in line with where the top window edge meets the B Pillar so I hear it quite a bit.
I think you are better to live with it as if you let the dealers loose they will invariably damage something else and you will have door panel rattles or damaged trim where the screwdriver has slipped - I had all of this when I had them fix a squeaky drivers seat. Unless my car breaks down it is going nowhere near the dealers and I will just turn the stereo up!

I have not looked but I remember seeing something about this in the Maintenance section. MAy wanna try there?

My noise is coming from the top rear corner of the door seal (not window). If I push the seal with my hand it stops, let go and it's back. It's like driving with the door slightly open. I'll speak to the dealer tomorrow.

Had mine in the dealer twice over the past 3 weeks. 1st time, they diagnosed that the problem was actually the window seal - seemingly it was warped, allowing wind in between the window and door seal, into the door, and presumably from there through to the car near where I heard the noise from the door seal. 2nd time around they replaced the window seal (they ordered a part after first visit). That cured it. No wind noise. :D

Can't say I've noticed any wind noise yet. Long may it continue!

Mine is ok, better than normal but thats because of my new eagle f1 tyres.
