As above, I'm approaching 2k miles and still struggle to get over 30mpg even being gentle with the go-go pedal.
I've a standard car on 17s with a manual box.
-
Pretty much from day 1 mine returned got 32 ish and 34 not long after that.
-
Was averaging 35 mpg when she was new but it dropped a little post 1500 miles as she got used a bit more eagerly. Currently just under 33 mpg average.
-
I get around 27mpg, but thats mainly town driving, on a steady run I can get around 33mpg no problem - and thats with a remap, suprised your struggling to hit 30 :undecided:
-
I was returning 21.1 before replacement DSG. Now getting 28.3.
All town driving.

My overall average is 27mpg... Went on a 270 mile round trip to West Yorkshire today and managed 38mpg on the way (80-85 all the way) and 34mpg on the way back
But remember, with a GTi, it's smiles per gallon that's important...

My GTI only has 1000 on the clock but I'm averaging 27 overall ( stuck in road works every morning on my commute to work ) and have had it up to 35mpg on trips on the motorway. Not bad at all really.
-
once it turned 1000 miles I changed oil and filter and then fit bluefin superchip - previous to this it was returning 30-32 mpg - since oil change mpg and fitment of chip now returning 34 - 35 mpg - oil used was millers xfs - petrol has been v-power (from day 1). Not sure if improvement was from engine freeing up or fitment of bluefin???
-
Its getting worse 60/40 stuck in traffic & 50-60mph runs 26MPG today  and I was taking it steady
Guess I need to get it back the stealers

Are you running the car on V-max, other super, or normal?
-
50-60 mph in mine returns about 40mpg
-
50-60 mph in mine returns about 40mpg
really? that is fabulous!
what is "about"? - 39 or 35.1?
-
Say between 39 and 41. Of course that is at a constant speed, not stop start or anything.
Sitting on the M25 at 50 helped prove this!
-
Mines around 23 MPG.
But that is a slow 7 mile crawl to work that can take anything from 15 - 45 mins.
Don't forget that the MPG improves vastly when the engine is nice and hot.
-
Never normally look at the MPG in mine as after the TDI I thought it best not to
However I have just been to the Lake District for 4 days and then back down and decided to Check it out for a change. Bear in mind that I have a DSG and cruise control for motorway driving and the results were derived from top up to top up and using the trip gauge for distances travelled.
I topped up with Shell V-power as I set off and zeroed the distance travelled. I topped up again three days into the holiday and logged the fuel used by the refill and as I got back home refilled again and logged the fuel used and then took the mileage for conversion back to MPG.
Result = 31.8mpg
This was a combination of over 180 miles of motorway driving at "eager" speeds and "spirited" driving around the Lake district on A and B roads including Hardknotts Pass and Wrynose Pass (I think that's how they're spelt!) of another 230 miles.
A similar incursion into the Lake District a few years ago with the MKV GTTDI (Chipped) resulted in 42 mpg
So for a car with better performance (which was definitely used ) and petrol instead of diesel it returned only 10mpg worse
Now....this is probably the last time I will make any comparison, so I don't depress myself with worse fuel figures in future :embarassed:
-
over the first 2-3k miles i have averaged 31.2 mpg and this has been mixed driving , lots of relaxed cruising 60mph and also upto silly speeds, red line etc etc on V Power from Shell.
the gti will not produce good mpg over short stints - my commute is 45 miles each way and this helps with mpg.
you will not get over 30 mpg on short stints , don't want to state the obvious but 200 bgp and heavy car will always struggle
-
I can get low 30s out the manual GTI day to day but the DSG i regular drive too is normally 3-5 mpg down on the manual on the same routes.
-
Just over 2k in ED30 - seem to average 32'ish. Mostly daily commute on fairly open A148 at around 60-70mph - except for couple of 30mph stretches. Few odd blasts obviously to clear out tractors/lorries and of course caravans which too many drivers seem content to sit behind.
About time we had minimum speed restrictions when driving on basically empty A roads - 50/55 mph?
-
Average over the last 2k miles is 31mpg. Best on a single journey was 41.2mpg, which was largely 60mph on the M25. Getting around 370miles to a tank.
IIRC using Vpower (98ron or higher fuel) allows the engine to run longer in Fuel Stratified mode so gives better mpg compared to 95ron.
-
MY GTI E30 is comming upto a month old. 500miles on clock. i seam to get 23mpg on drive to work. there is traffic so start stoping... still seams rather low.... i have never seen about about 30 on the motorway from junc 5 to 1 on M1 at high gear slow speeds... doesnt seam right to me?? maybe because its new?
-
Mine was like that as well for about 1500miles, then it started to get a bit better, I have had the journey 2 counter running since I collected the car and it stands at 26.8, which ain't that bad considering I barely touch the motorways! On a steady run it easily hits between 31 and 33. (and thats with the bluefin)
-
This might sound really obviuse but it really depends on what fuel you use (Im sure some, if not most of these guys here use BP Ultimate or Shell V-Max or whatever its called). And what kind of driving you do (town or motorway). I know my car isnt the same engine as you guys, but I was getting poor MPG when I first got mine, it wasnt till I got on the motor way that I realised it was because I was doing all town driving (26-28) but as soon as I went on motor way it went right up (30-34 depening on speed, obvisuly), and now that I regularly use BP Ultimate its even higher.
-
tesco premium 99
-
Iv not seen a single Tesco round my neck of the woods that does that stuff. Im more than happy with the BP stuff tho.
This petrol talk has been done to death though.
-
mine is apr mapped and has a milltek so in theory should do less than a standard car...
i do mostly motorway work, some of that is spirited and i use cruise quite a lot now...
reset it after the work was done and it is doing 29.8 as an average over the 1500 miles i've owned it..
this is running either v-max or tesco 99 as the map i had put in is optimised for higher grade fuel..
all in all i am very happy as it is serving its purpose of getting me too and from work very very well indeed...
and it looks smart and drives like its on rails as well....

Done 1900 miles in my manual GTi, mainly dual carriage ways and a/b roads. Computer says 20.1. I always use V power and enthusiasm where possible.

20 MPG, Nice !!
I have got just under 3000 on the clock now and average 30 mpg (mostly A and B roads, v little m/way)

Paulm007,for that mpg figure, you must have very few traffic lights in your area, or in a rural location and not town centre as you will never achieve those figures in the town, expect 26-27 for town owners or 31-33 for the country folks., using 99 octane of course
-
hum, not happy with mine, maybe its cuz its new, ill wait a bit

i'm with you on that..will swap em round at about 5k miles, then at 10, pilot sports all around....they will transform the car of that i'm positive.
-
nearly 3 months and 5k on my ED30. Given up nursing it to get 30+mpg - decided to enjoy driving on daily basis (in the outbacks of Norfolk) and getting 27/28 mpg. Small price to pay to enjoy your car that little bit more.
-
Had my manual GTI since March, 3500 miles on the clock. Averaging about 33mpg and I dont hang about some days.
fulled since day with with Shell V power, usually get on a run 38mpg, I have 42mpg on a motorway journey before on M4, i even took photos of the computer as couldnt beleive it (did drive like a grandad though.)
My commute to work is 7 miles and I dont generally floor it in the mornings, and I average always 28mpg on the computer as I pull in to me parking space.
-
mines now gone to 23. something, goes down very quick even with the smalest burst of power :p
-
I can get 40mpg out of mine on the motorway now (10k, ed30, DSG) If I stick to 70-80 mph.

Drive 10 miles each way to work, A roads and go through 3 sets of lights so not too much stop starting but do travel at peak times. Pretty happy with 30 mpg and don't dawdle much at all. Did manage to get it down to 16 mpg on my Castle Combe day
-
High 20s around town, low 30s on fast B roads and mid to high 30s on a motorway at 75-80 with cruise control.
