hi all am brand new to site and was after some info please.am looking to buy a mk 4 golf(99-00model)just like to know engine specs/performance for 2.0gti and 1.8t gti. thanks in advance.hoops_
-
http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/tech_data/ (http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/tech_data/) will sort you out. Someone should sticky that link somwhere ::)
-
stickied at top!!, any spec questions etc stick em here and well see what we can do!!, the specs on the golf range is soooo vast!! uk model/imports etc they all have little bits here and there!!
but as for question, 2.0 8v mk4 gti is 115 bhp, 18.20v turbo is 150 bhp, specs vary pending on original customer demands (optional extras) dont rule out the 1.8 20v gti (non turbo) this model ran for about 1 year and was replaced by the 2.0 8v its 125bhp but its a revvy engine, just thought id mention it as its a option on the age range you are looking for!! ;D
-
thanks for youre promt replies, much apreaciated.didnt realise the 2.0gti power output was so low(no offence intended).currently run a 2.5vectra sri(pls dont ban me!),am looking 2change and wanted somat similar performance,2.3v5 would be nice replacment just the cost,am used 2vauxhall prices afterall!!again thanks, prob av look at 1.8T gti.
-
Indeed. Don't rule out the 1.8 20v non turbo. I like mine :)
-
Why did they stop using the 20v NA unit and use the old 2.0 8v. Considering seat use it so do skoda and Audi, surely the 1.8 is a better engine.
Thats like having an R32 and replacing it with a Granada scorpuio v6 lump
-
dunno the 1.8 20v na unit was 'not as driveable' as the old 2.0 8v from the mk3 range so they stopped it and bunged the 8v in, ive driven both and i do prefer mine, yeah its only 10 bhp more than the 8v but its nice and revvy even though u have to keep em up to make rapid progress ;D
-
interesting reading, and must admit adicted to site already!loads of info!!the cars ive been looking at(?8000-?9000)av average of 80000miles on em,is this an ok mileage for a golf(with history)?2.3v5 in particular??owt to be wary of?
:)

not sure on the v5 matey, theres a thread somewhere in the mk4 section titled 'v5' or something cause they changed from a 5cylinder 10v engine to a 5 cylinder 20v engine, uping the power from 150bhp to 170bhp i think?????? dunno what year this happend but going on your buget i think if you could get a v5 youd be looking at the 150bhp model, which although a nice car if i had a choice i would plump for the 1.8t, just my opinion!!!!, the thing to do is test drive as many varients as you can then you have a good idea of what you want, the driving characteristics will no doubt vary from model to model!! ;D
-
av had two provisional ins quotes this eve both 2000models v5,?555FC+1.8T ?716.was leaning towards v5 purley for the less frantic power delivery, bit like my v6 vectra.suppose cud be swayed if tried em both! :D
-
Not considered a diesel then? ;D
-
id deffo DRIVE em both, as your used to a v6 i can see why you want the v5!!!, but the turbo cars are slightly different to turbo cars of old, it used to be wait, wait, wait whooooshhh, they seem to have dialed it all in better so they have hardly any lag so you maybe suprised!!! ;D

With that budget, well, if you can go to 10k max then on autotrader just found four 1.8turbo's all for 10k with about 30000miles on each. one even had santa monica 17"wheels on it.
As for V5's well you can get, a lot more for your money, Muilage under 40000 prices start at 8000 for a t plate, but if i was you i would stay clear of the v5, not very impressive ( blew one away today in my PD130) and expensive if you wanna tune.
You can just scrape a PD 130 for 10k with 85000 on clock, but i would'nt bother as it will be a sh!t example.
And this is the one i did'nt believe myself, ?9895 for a x plate v6 4-motion with 80000 miles on theclock, but it is 4 wheel drive.
Normally aspirated GTi' s, well thousands really, there are thousands of normal 2.0 or 1.8 GTis. But without being rude to veryone else who has one i would stay clear if you can afford a turbo, Plus the 1.6 se is virtually same performance spec as the 2.0 and the insurance will be half the price, so not worth it.
My choice for your 10K would be a 1.8turbo with santas, but i bet thats gone now, have a play on autotrader, there are some real nice examples on there, I did the search for max price 10k, 200 miles from ME10. have a look,
Also try to get aone with sports suspension, as mine does not have the sports kit and is ver scary on the corners, barge handling is standard.
Good luck,
No offence to the guys who have 2.0 & 18 NA GTi, just if he can afford turbo then it's worth it, i am sure you will agrea :-*

As a price guide, I got mine (1.8 non-turbo) for ?7500 from a vw dealer ( get a year warranty + free breakdown cover ). Only 45000 miles on the clock when I got it.
-

-

its for the interior sensors when the alarm is armed, if you leave a dog/kids in car etc press this then lock/arm then interior movement wont activate alarm!!

I was looking for a mark 4 for around ?10k, and couldn't decide on a GTI or TDI, so I went for the V6 instead!
Spent about a month looking, and picked up a black W reg with full leather heated Recaros, sat nav, TT 17's, privacy glass & private plate with 38k on the clock for ?12k, and I love it.
And my insurance was only an extra ?150 from my mk2 16v. But it's a bit juicy though.
My motto is to always stretch yourself to the limit, otherwise you just find yourself wanting more (I want an R32 now!).
