I recently fitted a Brand New kenwood head unit (not sure on the model off the top of my head) and was all working fine until when i ws on my way down to inters!
all of a sudden the sound went off but the screen was still on and all the display etc, so i tried to turn it off and back on again to see if that helps but then it wouldnt turn back on. it still has power because it will eject a cd and the red light flashes thats behind the front screen when u take it off!
any ideas on what the problem could be?

Kenwoods (well, my last three anyway) are notorious for 'crashing'.
Have you tried resetting the unit (there's usually a rest button somewhere on the faceplate).
-
erm, i have the front screen in front of me now the buttons it has are:
att eject
Volume knob pause/play/skip track knob
TI Menu 1 2 3 4 5 6 SRC
button to release the front screen
-
The reset button will be a little recessed button that you need to push with a pen tip, might not be too obvious.
-
got it, cheers i will try this and let you know
thanks mate
will it ask me to put my security code in again coz thats a pain in the ring!
-
Yes, it's likely you will need that.
-
its back! thanks for that tobz and sheps!
eddie van halen can be heard once again!
yea i had to put in the code again and i forgot what it was, so guessed which was wrong so i was panicking until i found the bit of paper with it written on!

my last 3kenwoods all stopped working i will never touch a kenny again!
fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, FOOL ME 3TIMES KENNYS ARE sh!tE

i have had two previous to tis one and they have both been great. it seems its just this one particular cd that it doesnt like....and possibly my favourite one too! it crashed 3 times in succession yesterday!
-
I had one of the blackface mask ones, it gave up after a while. I reckon it was the band bit that connects the faceplate to the inside of the HU, but then it did have to spin all the way around because thats the way the mask ones worked. It was a good unit until that happened though!

it wont work at all now, i reset it by pressing the button, input the security code then as soon as it either tries to play a cd or connect to a radio station it crashes again.
I try this again and again and it just crashes! pile of sh!te!

If it won't work at all, you'll need to disconnect the permanent live for at least half an hour to let it clear itself down - just pull the fuse, there's no need to remove the stereo.
I moved from Pioneer to Kenwoods about 8 years ago when my friend was a sales manager there, and hence I got an awesome discount (and I got top notch tech advice).
Now he is no longer there, I once again have a Pioneer in my gap in the dash - I just couldn't be doing with the down time (and then the time spent re-entering all of my settings etc).
-
ok so just pull the fuse out for half an hour or so then reset it and put my security code in?
thanks for your help mate
i defo wont be buying another kenwood thats for sure!!
-
yeah, half an hour with no power to it should be sufficient for it to get a hold of itself.
I would avoid playing the discs you have identified as problematic, just for your own sanity...
-
ok cheers matey
well it appeared to be just one cd that was playing up, namely Van Halen Best of Both worlds, disc 1...now it is every cd i put in.
-
feel sorry for you mate but i know how you feel
-
ha ha cheers!
well its working now....touch wood. took the fuse out as per Sheps' advice and it now works....until the next time it crashes anyway!!
