Title: Upgrade side skirts and chin spoiler?
Post by: NORTHERNER on 18 June 2007, 23:43
Hi, should be picking up my new red GTi on Saturday - the guy has sprayed the rear valance and I much prefer it...
I would now like to get the existing side skirts and chin spoiler sprayed the same colour... any ideas on cost?  Would I be best getting this done at a VW Retailer?

Alternatively any nice but subtle aftermarket spoliers?  Some people have fitted the R32 side skirts and front chin... are they exthingyve?

I especially like the kit on the ED30... I think that it is subtle but mean looking.. I am not into big spoliers...

Cheers

Any decent bodyshop could do the paintwork, but a VW dealer would give peace of mind with warranty.

Not bad at all... although i would probably like something even subtler... I think i quick fix would be to spray the side skirts and front to match the colour - might make it a bit neater... although really not sure how much that would cost... anyone had it done on theirs?

If the Edition 30 body kit a completely different kit than the standard GTi?  Or is it just body coloured version?  If different can it be purchased from anywhere?

AFAIK, there is a slight design difference to the Ed30 front/rear aprons, both of which are colour coded. Side skirts are just colour coded. Link to pics here:

Some nice carbon bits here which look good on a red car.

Cheers Russ and Cass
Looks like I could just get the side skirts sprayed, and purchase the front spoiler lip... the rear bumper on the GTi I am getting has already been sprayed and looks almost as good as the ED30 rear valance... almost

R32 sideskirts are £60 for a set from the dealers and come primed.

£60 for the R32 skirts... thats pretty decent... any approx prices on spraying them?  I really haven't got a clue what the price would be like?

As for photo's - I certainly will do... once I have given it a thorough clean!

spraying them + labour would set you back around £60-80

Excellent - cheers Maxamus!
At that sort of price it is a no brainer for me!!  Gotta be done!  I will be speaking to my local dealer as soon as I pick up the motor!!

Eeeewww.  Cass, that's hideous!

Any decent bodyshop could do the paintwork, but a VW dealer would give peace of mind with warranty.

Unfortunately, VWUK will NOT honour any dealer respraying - as I am finding to my utter disgust.  In fact, VWUK completely distance themselves from the "quality" of workmanship of their dealers.

With hindsite, I would personally recommend a good independent bodyshop - you know, the kind of places who actually care about their reputation!
