Hi all,
I was driving along the M2 on Saturday and had just left a 50mpg SPECS controlled zone. As I passed the end of the restriction I put my foot down (was in 4th) and my baby just took off... The acceleration was unbelievable and I went screaming past other cars with the engine growling like tiger... I actually let out a "whoo hoo" cos the acceleration just took my breath away! According to my speedo I was doing *just* over 70 mph
I thought to myself, "this is what I love about the car". It's a pleasure to drive normally but as soon as you boot it, it become a totally different beast. Other drivers reactions when you just leave them for dust makes me chuckle to myself.
I can't wait for it to loosen up further as I'm sure theres still a bit more umph left in that engine!
What one thing do you guys all love about your pride and joys?
Cheers
John

I Love:
- The Steering Wheel
- The Blue/Red Display
- The Red bit around the Mesh Grill
- THE NOISE !!!
What i hate is the traction control thumping and going mental when i redline 1st and 2nd gear!
Car should have been a rear wheel drive

The engine/exhaust note of that V6 is just soo intoxicating

is the GTI a V6?
-
No the GTi is not a V6. Im asuming he has an R32 (which is).

Yup, he's got an R32... I used to have one and I can safely say that the engine sound is AWESOME and leave you with a big  on your face every time you hear it.
-
My bro in law has a 2.5 V6 Vectra (build quality is shocking by the way) and even that makes me hair stick on end.
Does anyone want to donate a V6 engine to me?
-
Everything, I actually look forward to driving to work (more so going home obviously!).
The acceleration is awesome, esp over 4500 rpm. Makes me realise what I have been missing by driving a GT TDI for all those years (do miss the TDI's fuel consumption though! :undecided:)
Oh, and my ED30 exhaust note is great, nice low grumble building to a roar when the loud peddle is pushed

Know what you mean

Car should have been a rear wheel drive
Couldnt agree more... wtf were VW on when they decided to make the GTI front WD?
But yes.. although I'm a considerate driver, on the odd occassion I feel like tear-arsing up the 3rd lane people do seem to get outta the way when they see the black beast in their rear view  and no I don't tailgate unlike those BMW wankers
Oh.. and I work in a school and all the kids love talking about it :smug: :smug:

But if it were RWD it would look like a 1 series
-
The 'kickdown' that the dsg gearbox has..... trundling along in 6th, wanting to overtake. Foot to the floor, next thing you are in 3rd....
Can't help but smile
-

Me too... Some of the kids think I've got a 'gangsta' car, and I heard one lad say 'he thinks he's a bad boy driving his Golf' All good fun.
As for my favourite bit of the car, I'm pretty impressed with the black roof lining (and everything else!?)
-
i love everything... especially the growl of the engine... the whistle of the turbo kicking in... the way i can go round a corner in 4th and the looks of the beast
oh and i just love closing the windows and sun roof from outside the car!
and the boot handle and the lights staying on when i get out
there's nothing i'd change exept maybe the amount of fuel she eats!
-
The subtle but head-turning looks, cracking interior quality, the fact that I keep finding new little touches - like the rear windscreen wiper wiping when you put it in reverse when its raining (bit sad I know), oh and the fact in will keep up with my mates Evo FQ320! :smug:
-

Something else I didn't know! I assume you do that through the highline? Must go and have a play!

GTI is traditionally FWD.
-
I like how the car makes the money produce the whistle when money leaves my bank account. Almost as good as the induction sound.
-
Just because its traditionally FW doesn't meant they had to make the MKV FWD. People wouldd't have gone "Oh my god, you made the GTi RWD, how dare you!"

You are right. THey did not even have to make GTI.
-
Oh no ! Your wrong there! You can never stop making zie GTi !
-
I love the fact that as I'm dyslexic, the badge on my GTI reads GIT.

Good topic,
I love being in my GTI, I love:
The sound of the engine and the subtle induction noise when ur foot to the floor.
The blowback when u ease off the gas.
The eagerness of the car
Its agility
The steering wheel
GTI embossed seats
GTI badge on the car
The gadgets it comes with standard!
The instrument cluster (and blue lighting!!)
and above all my Xenon lights! - First car with them, I'll never go back!!
Things I dont love:
That you need to HOLD the lock button to wind the windows up... (takes forever!)
The vibrations in the door trims when the bass is cranked up (annoying!!)
The fact I didnt opt for a sunroof!!!
The ONE tail light!! (you can hardly see when ur reversing at night!!) and I've had at least 5 different people come up to me and say "your right reverse light is out" grr!
But at the end of the day, theres no such thing as a perfect woman and I love her to death!!
-
That you need to HOLD the lock button to wind the windows up... (takes forever!)
You sure yours aren't bust? I have auto up on both windows....

"Auto up"?
i have to hold down the lock button on my fob to wind the windows up once i have got out the car.......
-
I think by "auto up" he means that you just push the window button up for a while, whilst in the car, and they close automatically.
Mine don't close when leaving the car unless I press the keyfob button as you described.
-
Oh i'm with you. Much quicker to close them as you pull up!
-
i like the fact im waiting for my golf ed30 (6to 8 weeks to go)
and reading all the opinions of you GOLF EXPERTS : .learning alot keep up the good work
-

I've got a (non Ed30) GTI but I don't have the GTI badge on the mats. Should they be there?
I love everything about the car, especially as the first post says, the power it has when in fourth gear. The only (tiny) complaint I'd have is that the automatic headlights seem to come on too early - the full headlights come on when I would expect only sidelights
-
Footwell mats with GTi are not standard on Normal GTi, ebay for those, they are aftermarket only
-
Love the feel you get from the car and the handling - real contrast to the 'numb' drive of my previous A3.

They are not aftermarket. All VW dealer stock them and if they dont they order them in.
I got mine off the shelf from my local dealer.
They do look nice
-
OFF TOPIC:
How much are those GTi mats from a main dealer?
Cheers

£70 for a complete set (GTI embroided into the front mats with red stitching and red stitching around the borders, back ones are plain with red stitching around the edges). Go well with my black GTI

Ed30 mats are just black with red stitching. Look nice, but no GTI logo.

Driving, Driving, Driving......

At 85Mph+ for a few secs, and then off when you drop to 50ish for a while... (when in auto mode) me thinks...

Seconded - I just changed from an A3 and it's the best motoring choice i've made to date. The A3 was luxurious, and the slight difference in cabin quality is noticable, but just a short drive shows how much more my GTi makes me smile.

Absolutely and utterly love my ED30....period
It's the Mary Poppins of the motoring world
"Practically perfect in every way"
The one thing for extra special mention is the way that VW always play down the "official" performance figures
-

have you tested your car on a dyno? would be interesting to see some numbers..

I was thinking more of official = 0-62 in 6.6 for the DSG and I managed 0-60 in 5.66
Eventually I will go on a "dyno day" and see what figures come out in the wash...so to speak!
It would be nice to see what difference you get from standard to one with a ram air and Milltek system and then by adding the Twintercooler and then after a chip as well, but that would all add extra cost and would need to be done on the same dyno each time and for accurate data at the same time for getting the same conditions regarding environmental and mileage on the car :nerd:
-
The whole package is pretty much spot on, I only wish that the 18" wheels were standard as it would have saved me some money!!! It is about appearance and stance, the 18's seem to look more aggresive, imho of course!
-

Evo this month Audi S3
0-100 - 13.6
1/4 mile - 14.0
0-60 - 5.6
-
like the rear windscreen wiper wiping when you put it in reverse when its raining
First experienced this on a 1989 Ford Granada Ghia (although no rain sensor). I thought the 2.0 litre was so quick when my boss let me drive it - good job somethings change!
