Hi There
Does anybody know what type of aerial VW use when you buy a MK5 Golf with Sat-Nav unit?
A part number would be nice.
Im thinking about changing my existing external aerial for one that has intergrated gps aswell. At the moment by gps antenna is inside the car (which i installed myself during the MFD2 install) and the reception isnt that great there.
Also, is this what software i need for my Cd based MFD2 RNS?:

Factory fit Sat Nav antenna is the shark fin unit fitted on the roof. Don't know part no. however.
Just checked my DVD - it's a Blaupunkt Teleatlas Navigation Europa Version 3.0 - very similar to that advertised on the link. Check with retailer, looks like it will do the job for a CD based unit

Shark fin is usually colour coded, mind you you might get away with out painting cos your already black.
I wonder if you have to run the cables all the way to the front of if there is a connector?
+ don't tighten the aerial nut too tight, my m8 did it on his mk3 and left himself a nice little bowl for water to collect in.
Mine works OK with the antenna attached to the top of the MFD2. Did you get a special windscreen as one of your toys ?

Some cars have heat reflective/thermal windscreens, these can reduce/block the GPS signal.
I don't even know if it was an option on the Golf (luxury pack maybe) so I could be talking absolute poop.
