my back box rear rubber snapped today on my way home from work so i changed it and as i was laid on my wet drive in the rain wrestling a new one on i wondered if there was any heavy duty ones i could get so does anyone know if i can get some and where from as next time i will probably end up laid in a foot of snow doing the same thing (nowt ever goes wrong when the sun shines does it)

i want to know this too, genuine vw ones don't last that long either. you can buy ones with chains built in them but apparently they're not much cop anf the poly ones are sh!te.
-
Maybe ask at a local powerflow place? Some of those systems can weigh a ton, so i guess they must use something more beefy than a standard rubber!
-
tried cable ties? ratchet straps? elastic bands?

sorry to hi jack but are they legal cause i'v just found out mines held on with them
-
Powerflex make them for the font and rear, but the o shaped ones for the sides are a few mill bigger so dont know if they are any good.

Used to have an Impreza with a 'kin heavy system on it. Used a pair of Halfrauds loops cable tied together on each mount- worked a treat and lasted for ages.

I was actually joking about cable ties...

Used the tie to keep the two loops together around the middle, which limited the stretch. Cheap but effective!

get a big jubilee clip and tightend it round the rubber thats what i done on mine
if you look real close at this pic you can just about see the jubilee clip going over teh top of the rubber hanger and coming back down round the back of it - works a treat

I used jubilee clips on the 2 main hangers on mine as well, works a treat!
-
the rear hanger on gambits looks different to mine
i think i will try powerflow first as i have one close to me and if they use standard mounts i will be trying to fit some jubilee clips cheers for all the responses

My ernst backbox had a non-vw hanger on it and it sat a bit low, using some lateral thinking I fitted a ford bracket & rubber which is much stronger and it sits nicely now

what ford did you get the bracket from john
-
was a ford escord, the later roundy one, from just in front of the rear beam :)
-
as other people have said, i put a jubillee clip round my rear exhaust rubber, works a treat, and stops any large bouncing movement in the exhaust
-
cheers guys

I've got ford exhaust hangers on mine too, credit where it's due ford seem to make pretty heavy duty hangers. Plus theres a lot more fords in the scrappers than there are Vws

TSK FORDS!!!!! probably the only part of em that wont rust!
