Title: Good mods V's Bad mods
Post by: Hurdy on 14 June 2007, 14:18
So guys and Gals,

There have been quite a few threads on here regarding parts to add to your car and whether they are good or bad mods. To a large extent addenda to your own car is a personal choice and if you were building your "modded motor" what would you add and why and what wouldn't you add and why?

My personal choice would be that most performance enhancing mods, eg brake improvements, full exhaust system, Ram air kit, ECU remaps and the like fall into the "good mods" camp.

Similarly Audio enhancements in the main fall into the good mods camp unless you go too far.

For me the mods that don't float my boat are external additions (my aeriel excepted ) eg stick on race lookalike fuel filler covers, chrome bits etc. Internally, I would accept aftermarket Recaro's, but that's about it. I'm undecided on the Lambo style doors as they're not for me, but do look good. I can't imagine me or the wifee getting out of the car at Morrisons and swinging the door upwards :undecided:

Any shown examples are welcome and open for ridicule and/or praise in equal measure
And if possible stick to Golf V

This is the story of my mods: http://www.tyresmoke.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/1129495/an/0/page/0#1129495 (http://www.tyresmoke.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/1129495/an/0/page/0#1129495)

I did all my performance hardware mods before remapping, and I have spent time with each mod before doing the next one. Cosmetic mods have been done last.

Very good write up RR. Car looks great in red with the colour coding and the contrasting carbon bits/pieces.

Twin exhausts look the biz. I'm terrified to consider modding anything because I know where it will all end up ...

Cheers, guys . I got lucky on the plate - Initially I was only looking on DVLA site to see what my area standard gobblygook would look like.
