Title: Glove Compartment Lid
Post by: tweety82 on 13 June 2007, 18:39
Hi,
Can some one please help talk me through how to change the lid of the MK4 gti glive box???
I have read the message where there are instructions from 1 to 42 from the link http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=958556 Huh??! Baffled! Just to change a glove compartment lid you have to go through all steps??? I am confused! Maybe a common trait of a girl!?!
I need something more basic, my boyfriend says I cant do but I think I can!

if i remember right you do have to take the whole glovebox out to change the lid, but steps 18 - 42 should do it. you can slide the centre console out without removing the handbrake surround, but you do need the console out itself to get at the annoyingly hidden screw (point 35).

I gave in after hours of un-screwing and then re-screwing the same 6 screws in and out...In the end, I called the beloved boyfriend.
There was a little tab on the right and he sawed it off - that was the hidden screw. So there was no need to take half the car apart. He did it in 15mins. It looked very easy...I think I could do it next time!!!  [/ color]
