I need to do some body repair on my golf. Just a respray of the bootlid actually as there is a small patch of rust.
Just out of interest, was there only 1 colour of red for the MK2 GTI or are there various paint codes for the red?
Anyone any idea what it is aswell? Mine has the sticker but its a bit worn and kinda hard to make out the letters
Thanks guys!

I think I read somewhere that the early ones were Mars Red (bit more orangy) and the later ones Tornado Red.... not sure if that's correct though

well mines a 1990 model so im assuming thats a "later" model  tornado red was my guess tbh but was just wondering if there was more than one shade of the colour.
I might get a can from halfrauds and see how good the match is.
Is the only place to find the colour code of the car on the inside of the rear panel? as said, the sticker is there but its worn and faded so cant really make out the code

the stickers in the boot isnt it? mines tornado red, seen in my sig....
I think my can of paint from halfords was a touch darker...

Tornado red is a "blood red", Mars red is an "orangy red"
If you still have the origional handbook for your car, there should be a sticker, identical to the one thats stuck to your rear panel, stuck to the inside cover..
If your lucky, then the origional factory build sheet could still be hideing in your car, its a list showing all options fitted to your car, that includes the paint code!! lift your rear seat base up, as if your folding the rear seat down, hidden under the edge floor carpet, slide your hand under the carpet, and hope for the best!

If it's a 90 model then it'll be Tornado Red. If you still have the original owner's manual then there will also be a copy of the sticker found in the boot stuck on the first page

get the paint code from vw or check your log book or something similar for the paint code.
Its hard to colour match older pannels so it will come out darker. Better to get a custom colour mixed from your local paint supliers. Its cheaper too
Cost me 16 quid for two cans
