I have an oil leak that's quite bad, should i try using one of these stop oil leak products that are on the market or not?
thx for your help
regards marc

Where is the oil leak, and how much oil is leaking out?
I wouldn't use one of those products, i would repair the leak.

hi there if you can get hold of valvoline maxlife oil this may do the trick and will certinetly help..
-
the oil leak appears to be coming from the dipstick area

could be a gasket....Have you tried going to a garage and asking them just to look at it? if your leaking oil then your gonna have problems, Especially if your ragging your car. Oil works on pressure, so if your leaking oil then that means theres a lack in oil pressure and parts of your engine are being deprived of oil, This will in the long run damage your cars motor.

hey vwsystems do you work for valvoline or something. Its just that every post seems to mention valvoline lol, just asking:)
I guess i need to get to a garage and have them take a look
Say for instance it is a gasket is it likely to burn a huge hole in my pocket? What i'm saying is how much are they likely to do me for? thx

If its your rocker gasket your looking for ?3 for the gasket and ?20 labour if your too lazy to do it your self.

What car and what engine?. May get more response in the garage forum ;).
Oil leaking from the dip stick area, hmmm maybe the plastic adapter is broken or the engine breather is blocked. It would take a massive oil leak on the pressure side to lower oil pressure to a level that could cause engine damage, more likely to damage engine due to a lack of oil.

You need to clean the engine so you can see where the fresh oil is leaking from, ideally steam cleaning it would be the best option but you can do it with something like jizer and a decent hose.
I had a leak on the front and replaced the dipstick tube but it still leaked, mine turned out to be the oil pressure sender leaking.

no i dont work for valvoline......which is a shame as i'd get the oil even cheaper.... ;D
and the reason for the rave on about it its because it stops leaks from happening in the first place......
bloody amasing stuff......

thx for all the help guys, i took the car to a independant vdub garage and the guy was real nice but was totally snowed under with work so could only give me a few minutes of his time. As it turns out i have two leaks one is coming from the oil light sensor or something and i need a new one of them. The other (the big one) is coming from the left side of the engine somewhere and could be anything but most likely to be some sort of seal according to the guy. I asked him if it was anything for me to sh!t myself about and he said no it was ok but that i should get it washed off and find out exactly where it was coming form for sure but to watch that i don't wet the electrics. Sounds like a nightmare to me but when i get some time i'm gonna try and get it washe doff. You say jizer is the best stuff? Hmmm car is MK2 GTI 16v

its probably coming from a pulley seal. all oil leaks ive had in my mk2's has come from a pulley seal usually the top one.

is there any chance of someone posting a pic of where the pulley seal is at, it would be appreciated loads coz thats the first plce i'll look at
thx
