I use the Auto Glym bumper black, little pricey and requires a bit of elbow grease but makes the plastic come up like it just came from the factory, nice and black and lasts ages.

I use Autoglym bumper care (thick green liquid) which works well and dont have to rapply it that often. Only place I do have to add it quite often is on the rear boot spoiler, which is a lot more grey than black like the other trim...anyone else found this??

Autoglym stuff is OK (thick green stuff) as an initial coat but is expensive to use often.
I use Armor all   http://www.armorall.com/index1.html
which is really good for all plastic surfaces and gives a natural, new look.
Its about ?6 for a 500ml trigger pack and you use a lot less than back to black cos' it's not an aerosol (and it doesn't go all over your paintwork either!)
Really good for tyres too

i used to use Armor all, especially as you can use it on your dash and tyres, but I found it wore off quite quickly and goes patchy. At least with the Autoglym it seems to penetrate, give a more even finish and lasts longer IMO

I have used all of the above and havent found anything that I would highly recommend.

......did get me thinking tho.....I used to use black shoe polish on the first cars I owned, just cos I was really skint, i think it worked really well. Havent used it on the better cars I get now cos you just get a bit snobbish and decide to buy the good sh!t.

I'm gonna try the shoe polish on a small section this weekend me thinks.

remember there being one of those 'top tip' things in The Golf about using a hairdryer to slightly heat up the black plastic and they reckon it makes it look like new again...

WD40, hey! that could be worth a try.

I've got a repetitive strain injury in my elbow as a result in trying to keep the plastic black, and its all uphill in the winter months when you wash your mota more because of the dirty roads. I've used 'em all and it's a b***H!.

To be honest i,ve given up in the winter because when it rains the water off my rear spoiler leaves a greasy coating all over my rear window, no matter how much i work the crap in. The same thing happens on the lower bumpers and doors, I CAN NOT STAND THIS!

Pheww.

As a result i'm thinking of getting them painted up so i can just wax all over and be done.

Anyone had any work like this done? Know any costs?

Might try the hairdryer too, Ha Ha.
