Want to get rid of my G-max springs and return the car to original height. Problem is that I want to try and keep the handling characteristics of the sports springs.
What are my options? Does anyone make springs at standard height (or 15mm ish drop)? Am I better off trying to fit poly bushes all round (inc ARB) to keep the body roll down?
Any suggestions welcome!

would look at oem gti springs and might want to uprate the shocks if needed. Poly bushes have a little more vibration but handles better, an uprated arb to solve the body roll?
-
yeah get some h&r springs, we fitted some to a corrado vr6 that he wanted to remain as close to standard as possible and it drove like factory but was much better in the bends, that was with koni shocks. one of the nicest set ups i've ever driven with.

Cheers, guys. Do H&R do them at a standard height, Joe? Most places I have looked at only seem to mention drops....?
-
drops when advertised are from original height of the base models ie drivers etc. since gti's were lower than that as standard (not sure by how much), a small drop shouldn't be too far from what you want!

try genuine VW 16v springs with uprated sachs advantage shocks, I think you'll be surprised how well it handles :)
-
Have considered that- will 16v springs not leave it a little higher at the front owing to lighter 8v engine? Also, are pre and post 90 springs different? I would certainly think about doing it if poss.....
Cannot afford to swap the Boge Turbo shocks at the moment so would be sticking with them for the time being- they are under a year old.
-
I dont think theres a lot in it, I'd imagine the 90 ones would be a bit different due to the car being heavier though?
-
That's what I was guessing...... Right- decision time!
-
a silly question perhaps, but unless you are trying to completley restore a golf to factory spec, why would you want standard ride height as it looks pants?

Thinking about selling it after the summer so want it back to factory spec. Am also having problems with the set-up being too firm on the local run to work. Great handling on decent roads but not great on my commute.

raise it on soilovers

Moving to a new job where I don't need to drive so may have to go to one car. Can't fit wife, two kids and dog into the old girl! Will try and justify keeping it, but the evil queen of numbers at the bank may say no. Time for a Passat TDi estate!
And yes, got your PM when I finally checked my email last night- will get back to you ASAP!!
