Title: MK4 rear speaker wiring (Quick question)
Post by: GTITURBO on 10 June 2007, 14:37
Hi, i'm changing my rear speakers to 6 x 9's. Made shelf etc and now to wiring. As a quick fix i'm gonna remove rear panels and just extend standard wiring to the boot. What i need to know is on standard wirning what colour wire is positive and what colour is negative??? I know really i should run new wires from HU but as i say just a quick fix and this would be done at as later date. Cheers any help appreciated.

rather than take the panels off, i really would run the wires new, it will probably be an awful lot easier. no panel removing at all, 20 minute job. but if you can get to the back of the rear speakers you may save yourself a few mins but I really wouldnt remove panels.

A general rule is there will be two wires per speaker one will be a solid colour, one will be marked in some way, striped or whatever. the striped or marked one is the - wire.

my mk3 however disobeys this rule!
if you have an aftermarket HU it will follow this rule, so match the wire colours from the HU to the ones connected to the speaker wires ( at the connector block in your dash).

the negative wire will have a black strip on it.

Run the wires behind the glove box, inside the door seals, up the coloum where the seat belt goes in and from there to under the seats then into the boot.
