I think you may have been better paying abit extra in the first place.
If you do sell it, make sure you remove all related posts!

tbh not much else left to break.

fueling problem fixed, this should just be a sender/filter problem hopefully.
everything else is great on the car!!!

If the buzzer come son at 2,000rpm does that not suggest the oil pump is not working properly?

Good luck with it mate, I've had cars like this in the past and eventually you get through it!

buzzer @ 2k is triggered by the high pressure warning switch, could be down to a duff sensor, wiring or the oil pump.  The high pressure switch is the one with a white collar, usually on the oil filter housing with a yellow wire, though on some MK1s the it has a blue wire :)

Sounds like the oil pump has given up.

Do the right thing and drop a 16v in.  I dropped a GTI 16v in, it only took 2 days
You know it makes sense

I had this same problem on mine when I picked it up - we tried about 5 high pressure sensors before we found the right one!  Apparently there's about 13 different types for the cab and it's a pain to find the right one!

We even changed the clocks and were getting ready to do the pump after a while of having no joy - persistance paid off in the end though and we got the right one!

my mk1 gti 1600i would cut out randomly and sometimes the oil light would come on for a second, the car would feel like it was giving up and then straight away all the power would be restored...

i changed the ignition coil and it seems a bit happier now, trying to find the right fuel pump relay so i can change that for a new one... also i have a spare oil pump so will have that changed too, they are not too dear so worth doing for peace of mind...

reading your threads youve had nearly as many problems as ive had with mine, i wrote a blog about my misfortunes and adventures with the golf, ive named her "sh!tbags" this week and ive not driven her since last monday :(
