People of Golf land i've just has a quote of HIC for my 1990 golf GTI 16v. Im 21 with no no claims and got it for a tad over 700 quid third party with a cat 2. I know people say that they are slow to get back to you in times of accidents etc but i cant argue with that and i'll just have to lay of the right foot untill i can afford fully comp!!!

they wanted ?830 FTF&T when I called. Brentacre wanted ?894 Comp so i went with them.

Do they cover 17-18 yr olds?

My mk2 GTi is insured with them. I pay ?250 fully comp but with 2000 limited miles. When I sell the mk2 I intend to swap the cover to my mk1 8v turbo. I told them the power out put would be about 160-170 BHP and the have quoted me ?360 fully comp! I was expecting about ?600 so that was a real shock. I have been insured with them for years now and luckily have not made a clame so I don't know what there like with that but I have heard some of the rumours, but with these prices Ill deal with that if I ever need to. :)
