Title: other symptoms of a worn clutch?
Post by: mk2mark on 07 June 2007, 11:37
Ok I've been having a strange problem with my 8v, what happens is it occasionally drops power and bucks and stutters quite badly while driving along. It almost feels like there's something blocking power, and it always clears up after a few seconds and runs sweetly as usual.

I went through a few things in my head that it could be, it's happened before and I spotted a missing vacuum elbow, I replaced this and the problem seemed to get a lot better but this may be coincidence because it doesn't really happen that often anyway. I also had the thought somehow that it could be clutch related, so I tried accelerating hard at a set of lights and got some noticeable slippage, so I at least know I've a worn clutch  - but is it possible for a worn clutch to display symptoms like I've been experiencing?

I have this problem too..usually happens when the engine is cold? I gave my throttle housing a clean with some carb/choke cleaner and it helped alot but it still pops up now n then!

Hmm wouldn't say it happens more when it's cold, it has actually cleared up at this stage, it'll probably be a month before it happens again

my clutch started to slip when i had oil in there.....

It kept doing it randomly like yours, but got really bad so had to have a new clutch/seals etc.

That fuel filter sounds like a good idea!
