Title: Just got a golf tdi
Post by: gooseuk on 07 June 2007, 11:03
Hi guys. New to the forum. Just got me self a golf tdi 52 reg. Loving it so far. 2 things i would like help with.

The car has come with standard crap wheels. So just wondering were is a good place i can get some nice alloys with tyres.

And the spare key thats come with it dont lock or unlock the car. So maybe a battery has gone. If its that how do i open it to repalce it.

Thanks to any one who replies.

welcome to the forum

nice choice of car :afro: you'll have to get some pics up!

as for wheels Ebay etc are the normal haunts for second hand wheels unless you want some brand new ones.

the key literally pulls itself apart from the middle; its quite tough but if you wiggle it up and down it sohuld work free.  the battery you require is a 2032 (like a watch battery) you can get them from www.vagparts.co.uk for about £1 or just get some from your local pound shop

regarding wheels, i've had wheels from http://www.wheel-base.co.uk/ (http://www.wheel-base.co.uk/) before and they offer 6 months interest free, just make sure you pay before the 6 months though.

like Rhyso says the key comes apart in the middle, i normally use a flat screwdriver as it can be tight, use as wide a one as you can otherwise you can mark the key.  the groove is under the key blade.  once you've got it aprat the bit you press lifts off to show the battery.

what TDI have you got and what size rims you looking at getting?

Its the red i tdi so its 115bhp or 100bhp. Erh looking for 16 posiable 17 but with 17 the tyres start to cost more.

I wll have ago with the key later.

Yes i will get some pics up soon. Maybe next few mins just need to get the camera out lol.

Its the red i tdi so its 115bhp or 100bhp.

if you want to know for sure check the stickers, you'll see a KW figure which you can use to work out the BHP as the rear badges aren't always right.  the sticker in the service manual should say too.

there are loads of Montreal 2's on ebay, which are the standard 16's for the GT TDI's so give you a nice OEM look

you upgrading from steel rims then yeah?

Title: Re: Just got a golf tdi
Post by: gooseuk on 07 June 2007, 12:54

you can get genuine enamal ones on ebay, will try find you a link later, i actually had the same problem with one of my keys.

only problem is getting the old badge off and getting enough glue on to hold the badge with out having it overflow out the side.

your other option is to get a new key

Post by: Rhyso on 07 June 2007, 12:59
spec = specifcation - by what goodies did it come with??

heated seats, CD player, that sort of thing

think you can get replacement badges; ebay might be your best bet for that  :undecided:

lol beaten to it!!

Nce car mate,

With it being black, you cant see the non colour colded bump strips too much, some 16"'s will be nice, and as said the dark rear clusters.

The TDi's are very nice cars, very good on the motorway.

Hope you enjoy it like mate

I thought all TDi's came with the "GTi" style alloys and smoked GTi rear lights?

LMAO

you can't beat the PD for economy, my friend try's to justify his petrol by saying he gets more fpg (fun per gallon) but you can still have as much fun in a diesel IMO

like aland says what you getting round the town, you should be looking around 20-40 depending on how hard you're driving

Title: Re: Just got a golf tdi
Post by: AlanD on 13 June 2007, 15:32
I sense the numbers are against me on this one so I'm going to cut my losses and leg it !

My mpg is around 38 to 40 on sort runs ie 4 or 5 miles. Longer runs ie 18miles so on 50 odd.

Whats not to be fun in these tdi. They have more pull and seem quicker i think.

I aint going back to petrol again.

I should be getting my cruise fitted tomorrow so will let you know

i think all the GT TDI's had traction as standard, which button have you got?  you'll have either ASR or ESP

ASR is anti skid regulator (traction control)

ESP is electronic stability program (traction and stability)

either way, you'll find the traction light comes on a lot in the wet or if you turn in tight.

The new style R32's do look nice on the MK4's
