hi there! got a 1.8 16v mk2 gti. am pretty sure the down-pipe from exhaust manifold is standard. was fitted with scorpion ss exhaust system from this point - back, few years back. kept taking it back as it kept blowing, eventually got p***ed off with guys service/atitude to the job so i didnt go back (carnosiours i think, melton rd opp ge lighting - AVOID AT ALL COSTS).
anyway took it somewhere else and the chap instantly saw what the probs was. the diameter of both the d/pipe and system were exactly the same. so what this cowboy/ bodge-artist/ son-of-a-b!tch did was put a piece of tubing of smaller diameter between the 2 sections and clamped both with exhaust brackets and clag. after this i defo didnt want to take it back to him, and thats why i mention his place, so hopefully no-one gets stung by him. the bloke says he was prepared to weld the exhaust up to this tubing so as to stop the blowing, but that sounds worse than the first repair. my MOT bloke says that to get a proper seal here, i should get hold of an exhaust adapter which will go OVER the d/pipe section, and INTO the exhaust section and again clamp it up. trouble is i need the exact OUTSIDE dimension of the d/pipe, and the INTERNAL dimension of the scorpion system. does anybody know these measurments as i dont really want to take the system apart until i actually fit the adapter (am still using car for work everyday , and dont have any specialist measuring equipment apart from a ruler!!!).
