I've had the old 'R' for almost a year now and I've been meaning to find out if it is supposed to have door sill scuff plates? I know the Gti has them ( or mine did ) but regardless I think it's abit tight of VW not to put them on the R32's as standard as I think it finishes a car off.
Have I bought a Friday afternoon car or are your R's the same? Thanks. :undecided:

Hi Rog
No your's isn't a Friday car, they just don't have them, and I agree i think it's a complete "Cop out" on VW's part, trying to find some has proven to be a right PITA to be honest, there are the stainless ones from VW which say Golf and fit over the plastic sill cover, however I've seen these advertised, but as yet not been able to source them.
See here.sorry photo's not very good

I'm shocked at yet more cheap-skatedness form VW!
I can't believe their logic, especially when the "lesser" GTI and Ed30 has them. Those little reflectors in the rear bumper must have blown the budget!
Actually, the yanks get plain black scuff covers. EDIT: and so do we, looking through my piccies from vw.co.uk.

Yeah the things they do to save a Bob, just a pity they didn't think to offer them as a accessory, then they make even more money.

Thanks chaps, I'll not go on about it again as I can already see some smugness from our Gti buddies!!!
On another topic just got Auto Express through the door and it's got a two page spread on the Golf mk VI which looks like it's going to be launched in autumn 08 and it looks quite smart. So guys you've got just over a year to enjoy having 'the latest machine' unless ofcourse your going to get a Mk VI. If I go for one it won't be straight away, I'll not buy it from my dealer Sidlow Gatwick but else where and I'd probably get a diesel - just my tight Scottishness coming out and to be honest I can rarely use the R32 properly with all the PC speed cameras - sorry I mean safety cameras and mobile vans!!

ED30 - lesser model - I thought it was above the R32 in the range
*Ducks behind settee for incoming backlash*

:embarassed: Borroks - I should have clarified that comment. Ed30 and standard GTI which cost less £Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£ than the .:R32 !!

Girls, girls, girls, no need to b1tch about which is better!
The Gti, Ed 30 and R32 are all V good and you didn't just buy one for the performance, if you had you'd have bought an Astra VXR or a Scoobi Doo or the such like and potentially got a big discount so saved dosh or if you spent the equivalent got alot more 'get up and go' for your money. You didn't though ( like me) and wanted abit of class and abit of street cred too - which you've got. The only thing I'll say to the defence of the Gti boys ( not mentioning your free scuff plates! ) is that your fuel efficiency is much better than the 'R' obviously because you've a smaller blown 4 pot engine and the fact that when you've warmed up your Gti you don't need to keep the revs above 4 grand all the time for a fantastic 6 pot sound track that gives you goose bumps when the windows are down!!!!! :smug:

I shan't mention my V8 RS4, with the sport button pressed, windows down, sunroof open, giving full bore - through long tunnels under the Alps . . . .
Bu&&er, silly me - couldn't stop myself!
