Title: mk2 poly's
Post by: paultownsend on 04 June 2007, 20:48
just about to fit some poly bush's to my arb eye links. is there an easy way to do this without a press? iv heard of soaking the bush's in hot water? or plenty of grease and standing on them to get em'in!   Paul

they are a buger to get in! Clean up the area they are going into ie any rust. I used brut force and a flat head screwdriver to slowly tease the bushing in, not the best way I suspect! Good luck

I would imagine putting them in hot water will make them expand, making it harder to get them in.
How about freezing them to make them contract ??  :undecided:

The hot water trick makes them nice and supple so you can tease them in. A couple of blocks of wood and a vice can push in the most troublesome of bushes.

Or a big bolt and a few big washers just put the bush in place then tighten the bolt up like a press but much more hard work lol

Hot water to soften the poly, then plenty of copperslip. Then I put the eyelet on the ground and sit the bush on top, then stand on it while i push the lip in round nthe edge with a screwdriver.  Once in all the way round, stamp on it a couple of times :)
