Title: Golf GTI Edition 30
Post by: Adam GTI on 04 June 2007, 11:07
Hi, I'm a total newbie to this forum, but thought I'd dive right in!  Just bought a 2007 gti edition 30, and was wanting to know any tuning advice related to this - maps, exhausts, etc etc - and how to get the best power out of it (also depending on price!).

Any advice would be great!

Adam

How does an increase to 310hp for £599 sound

Superchips Bluefin; there is a thread on here by somebody who has done it. Milltek are currently working on an exhaust IIRC.

I'm still waiting on the Milltek system for my ED30 as it still hasn't been developed yet

Don't forget to register your ED30 on the List :-

And you will kiss goodbye your Vw warranty if your gonna chip it dogbucket  , i wouldnt mess around untill your warranty runs out, then its your call. We are talking about an expensive motor here which really should be broken in gently rather then blowing the arse of it by putting more horsepower down its throat.

I think the guy is not an idiot and already knows that warranty will be void after chip-tuning, Phil

Regarding Milltek, I wrote them an email about exhaust for Ed30, and they referred me to a local distributor here in Switzerland, and he, in turn, referred me to Sportec. (www.sportec.ch)
What's the point of referring when there is no exhaust for Ed30?  :undecided:

Where did I say I was actually going to chip it?   After a 4wd R32, front wheel drive is a big enough handful for me with 230hp at the moment.

In any event remember it is effectively the same engine as the new S3 which happily runs 267hp from the factory. So I doubt its arse as you put it will be blown off

I assume a normal GTI Milltek cat back system would fit the ED30? Is it just the full system we are waiting for?

I am waiting for the turbo-back system. I guess it is different from that for GTI, since the turbo is bigger on Ed30?  :undecided:

yes that is probably the reason.

On the R32 fitting a Milltek was a no brainer because the standard system was so boomy, and there was that lovely V6 noise to enhance. I am not so sure there is that much to gain on the ED30, although RedRobins quad system is reported to sound very nice.

Thanks for the advice guys

A chip would definately be easiest - especially a bluefin!

I had a focus ST before and also responded well to a chip - I prefer to do things which are easily reversible.

I had the Bluefin fitted to mine recently, it comes highly recommended! Check out the Edition 30 Superchips Bluefin thread where it was discussed in detail!

It's not only sound, it is quicker throtle response, a few more bhp (they say 8-10% more), less backpressure = turbo feels better. I've read that turbos on Volvo S60 R sometimes developed cracks , because downpipe was narrower than the turbo exit...

Erm, the map for the S3 was written by the "experts" at the factory, and not by some halfwits who only know how to crank up the turbo boost.

I assume a normal GTI Milltek cat back system would fit the ED30? Is it just the full system we are waiting for?

Looks like you just scored an own-goal - as the Ed30 has a completely different turbo to the standard GTI.  :smug:

A chip would definately be easiest - especially a bluefin!

But Bluefin certainly aint the best - and I strongly doubt their reliability!

Own goal? WTF are you talking about

Of course the Ed30 has a different Turbo, that was exactly the point I was making. Hence my question that maybe a CATBACK system from a normal GTI would fit.

What the hell is catback good for anyways? I don't get it... original one sounds fina and looks fine. Now, turbo-back - that's different matter!

Borrox, technically, you win and I loose, but in the real world, as Peskarik points out, you really need a turbo-back zorst with a h-flow sports cat (if any cat at all ) - maybe a "score draw"
