I was insured for 550 on my 1 litre 2001 vauxhall corsa last year, but got my golf a few months back, MKIV only a 1.6 litre engine, 53 plate, cost me 1000 insurance on my mums name with Tesco, im 18 and have one years no claims, was just wondering what other companies young drivers have found to be quite decent! Live in Stockport btw heh :)
-
best I found for my son was Norwich Union - they seem to accelerate NCD rapidly, eg his recent renewal went from £680 a year ago, at 19, to £550 this year at 20. That's only for a Mazda 2 though, (1.25).

Admiral/Elephant/Bell
All the same company but different prices! Oh, and with Bell you can add a drive any car 3rd party feature for around 30 quid extra.

absolutely, bell are good if you have no NCB but if you get quotes for em all you can play them off each other
-
Kwik Fit gave me the best price, I'm 20.

as Sharpie said just try loads as most often have a certain amount of flexibility to beat other quotes.
avoid bonus accelerator policies, they are hassle in the long run as only that company will garantee to accept the no claims, check out some of the other topics, i explained it in more detail in one.
best of luck
Martin

When me and my friends started driving we all were all the same age, with roughly the same driving experience, living quite close together and with similar cars (typical first cars, small engined hatched backs) and a company that would give one of us a great quote would be terrible for the others!
So my advice would be shop around and try a few places, 'cos a company that's cheap for someone else might turn out expensive for you, and visa versa.
-
yes it's an absoloute ball ache but shop around. My insurance varied from £800 to £7000 (I shit you not). Bell were the cheapest in the end and you will find that *some* insurance companies will take the 10 months accellerator as 1yr no claims but most will not.

Hi all Im just about to turn 17 and really wanna get a golf....but wanting to be the envey of my mates (this sounds crazy) but I want a Mk2 Gti, anyone got any ideas on the insurance I would be looking at, and the best places to look for it, because of the engine size I have already checked out on insurance company (swift) and they gave me a quote of £4600 for 3rd party...and well I havent got the sort money, any help?
-
Without trying to sound like and old man and a killjoy your better off getting something smaller for 1 year then getting a GTi. Insurance for young drivers is bad enough, let alone being 17 AND driving a GTi all be it MK2.
Sorry its probably not what you want to hear.
-
no thats fair enough I was just trying to fins out if there is any way possible of be getting one but I think your right
-
No chance of going on one of your rents insurance for a year or 2?
-
i'd have to augree with everyone and say try bell! they were a couple of hundred quid cheaper than anyone else for me. The other one id suggest trying is Victor C Knight, insured me when i was 17 and there premiums were very reasonable!
-
i get 860 quid for a mk2 valver at quinn direct and i can drive other cars 3rd party, looking at a mk1 2.0 16v carbed track car with lots of bits. insurance could be interesting
-
The best quotes i got from major places were. Prudential and churchill. Everything else was just crap.

I turned 23 in June and managed to get my Mk IV GTi Turbo insured fully comp for £400ish with Direct Line. At the moment, they are offering 0% APR, so it costs no extra to pay it off in monthly installements. They also did the best quotes for my previous cars too.
But gotta agree with most people in this thread - Drive around in something less glamourous for a couple of years and build NCD (and more importantly experience!). Ive finally hit 5 years NCD, and looking at my Golf now, I can forget about all the times I was left in the slow lane on the motorways! Cool cars come with time....

It depends massively on your circumstances and your post code. Until your at least 21 be prepared to have your pants pulled down over insurance.

im insure with HIC... didnt speak with martin but i spoke with a young lady there... im 20, with no NCB, and she told me that usually they wont insure anyone under 21... but she did anyways, and im paying 1495 quid or there abouts haha. car only cost 1600... ahwell, first car that i really enjoy driving, and its by far the best investment i've ever made, in my opinion.
