Hi,
Im looking to gain a few BHP on my MK2 16V. I have heard an easy way of gaining a few BHP is by the WUR modification.
Does anyone know who can do this for me in Scotland?
Cheers

hi there, what is the WUR modification?
-
I have pinched this off another forum
" The WUR has two funtions it causes enrichment during warm up and then maintains the control pressure on top of the metering head plunger.
How far the plunger moves in repspect of the air pushing against the metering flap determines the air/fuel mixture ratio that the engine gets. The WUR controls this pressure.
The Metering head controls the system pressure, ie the fuel pressure that the injectors see, the amount of fuel that comes out of the injectors is dependant on the position of the slits in the metering head plunger.
So the WUR mod simply alters the control pressure and hence either richens or weakens the mixture right across the rev range. K-Jet often runs lean at higher revs and therefore engines benefit from checking and getting the control pressure spot on.
However you will need a pressure gauge to set it and prefably a gas analyser to see the effect of the change to control pressure. That is why you really should combine the "WUR mod" with a rolling road setup so that you can see the mixture throughout the rev range.
The WUR mod is not limited to the 16V WUR, although it is easy to do with the 16V one. You can modify the control pressure settings on an 8V WUR by drifting the supporting spigot in or out - it is a ball ache because you have to keep taking the WUR apart, move the spigot, put it back together and test again.
"
It appears to be a very good and cheap way of gaining BHP. Other forums go mad for it so Im wanting to get it done!

Sounds like a small resistor, heard a few horror stories.
You could try Star performance in Kirkcaldy or Dastek in Dalgety Bay
-
nothing at all to do with a resistor!!!
It is a standard part of the car that VW has tuned for optimal performance/efficiency. By tweaking it you get more power, but possible initial cold start idle probs, which sort itself out after about 10secs or so.
I think it is worth for a gain of 10bhp!

Has a look at Star and Dastek. Both seem good. Does anyone know of of any VW specialists in scotland? Especially ones that can do a WUR modification?
The resistor mod is just bullsh!t that gets sold on ebay to gullible people!
Thanks so far!

star see a lot of dubs - i'd probably give them a shout

ive seen about that and it involve taking the air box and stuff out and drilling out a hole so that you can get a alen key in there or somthing like that ,vw set it up for good fuel economy and it can be changed to give more bhp but would not no if it would muck up anything else with the car so it may be worth doing but if it was to go wrong then you would have real troble getting it back to how it was
ok if you have 2 then u could do it to one and try it and if it worked then great but if not then just change them over sorry i dont no what the bits are caled but its under the air box lol

Star performance don't deal with the older stuff now, purely focused on laptop tuning. Had asked them regarding a mk2 16v swap
With the guide you can do the mod yourself. Fiddly but not impossible.

I can reccomend AG Motorsport, but not 100% sure on whether they work on K-Jet. Given how touchy K-Jet is, I would never bother sacrificing reliability for more BHP, what bottom end do you have on your block, the 2l bottom swap can see similar (6-8 BHP) results.
-
6-8bhp? I'd have though you'd probs get a wee bit more than that with a 9A or 6A bottom end?
I spoke to John @ bedrock a while back regarding putting an ABF in my 16v and he reconned K-jet with a 9A bottom end would beat an ABF in the real world but that goes against what I've heard and seen from others on here and my experience of my own ABF would comfortably destroy my current mk2 despite being a heavier car. I dunno if I got a "good one" from the factory but this is the reason for me going down the ABF route also as it's sitting outside my house taking up space it seems almost rude not to swap. IMO ABF is torquier from lower down and KR is a bit gutless before 4000rpm then goes mental, bit of a, dare I say it, V-tec thing going on there...
But as the saying goes there's no replacement for displacement...
