Title: help with rear shock/lowering problem...
Post by: Retrocool on 28 May 2007, 13:44
Hi all,

I'm currently lowering my car with some 40mm drop eibach springs.  Its been pretty smooth sailing until now. I'm on the last shock and low and behold something has gone wrong. The spacer above the upper spring plate seems to be rusted to the rod and is unmoveable.
I've tapped it with a hammer and soaked it in wd40 and nothing and pulled til my eyes were popping outta there sockets and nada, nothing....any ideas??
So i'm thinking i may have to buy a new shock...should i buy these as a pair and change both on the back?? or is just one new and one old ok??   Also should i buy Gas shocks or standard ones??

Thanks in advance

I suppose now would be as good a time as any to replace the shocks. Boge turbo shocks are a good budget gas shock and work well with the Eibach springs. They're something like 30% uprated and are around 20 quid a side.

put a socket ovder the end of the rod so that it is touching the spacer, then give it a whack with a hammer.

It will just need a jolt to get it going I would think!?!

failing that then wack some new shocks on, you'll need to buy new spacer etc.. as well though

thanks for the replies guys, i went for brute force and ignorance in the end with 2 hammers and the spacer eventually gave up.  even so i reckon i may change/need to change the shocks anyway now

i've heard that boge are good with eibach springs...wheres the best place to buy boge shocks from??

thanks again

I think you can get boge from ECP and GSF?

Also consider the cheapo ebay sport shocks, depends on how much boge are tbh!

I'm running the ebay shocks with eibach springs and can't fault them!
