Title: MkII 8v gearbox drama
Post by: rjk555rjk on 25 May 2007, 17:38
Hi there!

Gearbox drama, as in: the 'gate' between 1st and reverse is no more. I.E. I go for 1st, actually hit reverse.

When you're revving at the lights, this is very dramatic, let me tell you.

Is it fixable? Is it a gearbox internal, or something in the linkage? And if it's a gearbox issue itself, might I just as well buy a new gearbox? Because 1st whines, and 2nd does a bit too... seeing lots of MkII boxes for £20... but how much hassle is it?

Cheers!
Rich.

my car has been like this for 2 years, its easy to drive still. the "gate" is just a piece of plastic underneath the gearstick gaitor. remove the gator trim, and you'll see it sat on the left hand side clear as day, 2 minute job.
