Title: Grateful for any help/advice
Post by: Tezza on 25 May 2007, 12:12
Newbie to site - set my heart on a GTI black Mk5 DSG - been looking for ages. Anyway found one I like at Motorpoint Newport going to see it Monday. Although not a UK spec it does have lots of extras at £19k. Apparently car built in Germany - the VW manufact warrantly has expired (started 1/1/05) only 23 miles on clock. Motorpoint are offering a 3 mth warrantly and wondered whether this is ok? I have spoken to VW warranties who have informed me that a new range of VW warranties are just about to be released - did not have costs or details yet etc.

1. Thoughts about warranty - any other deals going? Would you go for it?
2. What should I be looking out for on this car - have made a list from posts on this site eg rear speakers not working etc.
3. Experiences dealing with Motorpoint?

Any help would be appreciated - thanks

could it be another one of these?

Ordered a new "discounted" GTi with a high spec, and this is what turned up, can't believe how these people are still trading.
You won't believe it..

My thoughts would revolve around the car sitting in a field for 2.5 years! Have seen elsewhere the effects of this (as above). Check things like the engine and spare wheel for mould/dirt etc.

I'm fairly sure i wouldn't buy it if it has sat around for 2.5 years!

I wouldn't touch it with even a very long barge pole.

Reading previous threads about cars that have delivery mileage, but little or no VW warranty left is a recipe for disaster IMO. I'm sure that there are more cars for sale out there for a similar price that are less than 2years old, that may have more miles on them, but have been lovingly looked after by their owners.

Not worth the risk... unless you get it properly inspected by someone who knows that they're looking at?!

Buy a year year old model and get 2 years warranty. New isn't everything if it has been cosseted.

Also remember, as good as it may be, an import will always be harder to sell and some dealers may not even take it in p/ex. You save money now, but lose again later. No such thing as a bargain.

If this car looks remotely tired like the pics above then run away as fast as you can. It should sparkle under the bonnet/wheel arches.
