56 plate GTi 5 door. You can hear the lock in the door actuating/working. Tried all kinds of combinations of buttons/remote presses. The outside handle does nothing and pulling the inside handle feels odd - as if something is disconnected (yes i've tried pulling twice etc.).
Any ideas? How do you think the dealer will be able to fix this if he can't get the door open to remove the door card/internals?
The other half smashed the door mirror the other day - but the door has been working since this time. I guess something could have been 'shocked' loose?
Thanks.

Thats a bit bad... I have no clue how to help. Try calling a few panel beating shops and ask for advice there?

dealer problem

I had something similar on my passenger door when I collected the car. I couldn't open the door from the inside or the outside.
I rang VW Assist who came out to have a look and managed to open it. It was diagnosed as the lock mechanism which the dealer changed under warranty.
To get the door open the VW Assist guy just tapped the outside door handle to jog the mechanism.

get the mirror fixed first, then call VW assist or take it to a dealer and make it their problem.

Thanks guys - I'll be fixing the mirror for sure (got the bits) then I'll call VW Assist/dealer.

Fixed it!
Replace mirror/indicator (easy enough job). Then called VW Assist who didn't want to know. Booked in with dealer for Tues.
Then went to put can away and had another play - pressing the unlock button on the drivers' door and pulling the interior handle. Suddenly something gave and it worked/opened. Tried the door about 50 times since to make sure it is OK. Something must have got stuck in the mechanism.
Phew!

Are you sure this isn't related to a setting in the "convenience" menu? I'm sure there's a setting where the remote on the key only releases the driver's door.

No, all I have is the std first press for drivers' door, second press for all doors option. It was something stuck in/on the mechanism between the interior handle and the lock which freed up by luck. Hopefully won't happen again.
