Title: Digi oil temp (getting warmer)

My Digi always used to run at around the 90c level sometimes getting up to 98 on a thrash. I replaced the connection on the oil temp sender when it came loose and all was fine.
I've been noticing lately she’s getting up to 126 and remaining mostly around the 114 –120 mark.
She runs on Synta silver, should I be getting worried or am I just paranoid?

Might want to clean up the terminal, it could be the loose lead was giving you a low reading that is now correct (as the sensor see's it!) Sounds high to me..... mine'll get to 108 on a hot day after a spirited drive but no higher. might want to change the sensor or simply accept the new reading and use that as the 'base line' then watch for higher to indicate issues?

Worth doing some checks, could be oil pump having problems maybe? Check your cooling system is all ok, fan, coolant level etc.

No, she doesn't pink (new knock sensor fitted) and the fan comes on as well.

The water temp gauge only ever gets up to the first mark or just under half in stop start traffic, so it seems a bit strange that the water is ok but the oil is cooking.

I opened the bonnet today after the drive home and both the top and bottom rad hoses were bloody hot to touch, is that the norm?

I was thinking perhaps it could be a problem with the oil cooler thingy, which sits on top of the oil filter?

I love her to bits, but she's starting to cost me a fortune and there isn't a month that goes by without major expense :cry:

Just think in a few more months the car will be mostly new parts! The rad pipes will be hot, the termostat to the rad opens about 90 degrees C! I have a spare oil temp if you want to pm me your address I'll send it to you? best go look for it now  :rolleyes: , that seems the logical first change.

In the post m8, probably wont get to you till the middle of the week due to th bank holiday! only small issue, it should have a copper type sealing washer, which has dissapeared, try and reuse the old one. good luck

Oil and filter were changed just a while ago. I'm not sure about having an air lock in the water system like Alfie has, according to all the replies. I'll try another temp sender and change the spade connecters on the pressure senders as they are all brittle and hanging on by a couple of threads.
I'm gonna send her in to a new VAG specialist I’ve heard of anyway, as the next problem has arisen.
The alternator belt is loose and I can't undo the pivot bolt as previous garages have managed to round it off perfectly. A good excuse for all new cam belt covers and alternator fixings!

Dont reply to my last post, as I now know alternatior  pivot pin has an allen key fitting.

I did try an allen key with a few taps from a hammer but it still wouldn't move!
Its a shame haynes didn't use a few pics from the Lynsay Porter golf book!

As for the oil temp, I might go the whole hog and fit a new pump to see if that helps?
