Title: 20VT or 1.8 with twin 45's??
Post by: KittyMk1 on 22 May 2007, 09:02
Hey!!
Just an opinion i'm after really.
I was considering doing am engine conversion with the help of my lovely fiancee to a 20VT from a 1.1 in my Golf Elvis.

After a conversation at the weekend though i'm not seriously considering getting a mk3 1.8 bottom end and then putting a 1.8 head on and running him on twin 45's.

now what are the benefits and disadvantages of both?? i know the turbo would be quicker and the twin 45's sound ace and would make him a lot punchier etc

what would you recommend and why?

any opinions very much appreciated! :)
xx

I'd go 20vT because it's a more modern engine, easily tunable for real power with little cost once it's installed and it's more than likely to be more reliable and have better fuel consumption. I don't know much about twin 45s, but I do seem to recall that they drink big time when giveing them a bit of stick.

So 20v because it's more reliable, quicker, better MPG. The twin 45s would be seen as doing something away from the norm though as 20vT are fairly common these days, but that's also a good thing as there must be some very good reasons why that is the case.

If you want to do something a bit different, how about a G40 in a mk1, I think that seems to suit them so well and you dont see many of these done as people normally go G60 or 20vT.

20v all the way.....

1.8 with twin 45's are high maintenance to be honest and require alot of tuning up.... a G40 would be sweet as Gibby said everyone is going the g60 route....
